4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful art but confusing pips, April 23, 2009
This review is from: Universal Wirth Tarot (Cards)
The Universal Wirth deck is beautifully colored with a modern touch to the illustrations we all know from the original Oswald Wirth Tarot. The Hermit is a highlight for me along with the Emperor. great faces with emotion and figures that are both lifelike and comic-book at the same time. This deck has a great color scheme and the art flows wonderfully. Every card fits in with the whole.
The big problem for me is a simple one. I'm so used to seeing Swords as air and Cups as water, so this deck is hard for me to read with since they are reversed here. I understand the history of such interpretation, but can't get past the fact that it's the opposite of the way I view the cards. For instance most cups in this deck have a butterfly motif on the Cup itself and butterflies and birds and nice blue skies as a focal point. The Sword cards contain waves, pools, the ocean, fish, lobsters etc. You get my point.
All in all, this is one of the more beautiful decks out there. If you are looking for fantastic art and a modern take on a historical deck, then by all means pick it up. However, if you are like me and typically interpret the minor arcana as Wands/fire, Pentacles/earth, Cups/water, Swords/air, and you think it may be difficult to get around this in a reading, think again before you buy.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Universal Wirth Tarot (Cards)
I am presently immersed in studying how to read the Tarot cards, and also trying to develop my ESP to help. This deck is the one I felt drawn to, although I purchased about ten different Tarot decks. I am still trying to learn the techniques that will work for me. The artwork is beautiful in this deck.
