and finaly got around to adding the third member Mattel made of the metal men Mercury who like the other two the four horseman nailed him making the sculpt thin like the character and also making the red paint not so messing. plus he comes with his one hand as a pair of sccissors that look like he is starting to melt and can open and close plus an extra hand to pop in.then one draw back the sculpt is so thin as it is suppose to be that with out a stand he is liable to fall off the shelve fans of the metal man definilty should get him and put him with gold and iron. hope Mattel gets around to finishing the team someday.

I'm a big Silver Age DC fan, and I love the bizarre and whimsical characters from that era. One of my favorite titles was Metal Men, and when Mattel started to produce figures from that team, I was estatic!

The first of the Metal Men to be produced was Iron. The figure looked as if it'd just stepped out of a 1960s Andru/Esposito comic, and its accessories (snap on wrench and a wrecking ball designed to suggest they were forming out of Iron's own body) were logical. Next came Gold. Again, great looking figure, but this time the accessories (a pick axe and a chain saw) were kind of useless, since gold is such a soft metal.

And now, there's Mercury.

The figure, on its own, looks terrific. As Iron and Gold looked properly heroic and noble, Mercury has the look of the sardonic wisecracker down pat. Mattel sculpted a new body type for the figure, so it's as lean and lanky as in the comics.

Unfortunately, Mercury is exactly as tall as his fellow Metal Men.
He should be at least half a head taller than the rest of the gang. And his accessory? A snap-on pair of shears.

Now mercury is the only metal that's liquid at room temperature (a fact that the character constantly reminded us of in the comics. Any type of tool is going have limited effect on a target. Try cutting cloth with a glass of water, and you'll see what I mean.

Still, a full set of the team is definitely worth having. We still need Lead, Platinum, Tin and Dr. Will Magnus, creator of the crime-fighting robots. (Tin could be Doc Magnus' accessory, ensuring that the short, slight and humble metal would be in scale.)

After that, we really need complete sets of The Doom Patrol (already started), Challengers of the Unknown, Blackhawks and the Inferior Five. (Hey, hopefully someone from Mattel is reading this!)

I have a few dozen DC/Marvel Silver Age figures and this one is simply perfect!!!

It doesn't look metallic, but in the Silver Age Metal Men, Mercury didn't look metallic. The figure's skin has the same look as the comic.

And the face (if you remember Mercury's face) is perfect!!!

It looks like Mercury just stepped out of a Silver Age Metal Men comic into the 3D world!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Mercury Rising, February 15, 2011

The Metal Man known as Mercury is the third Metal Man we have received from DC Universe Classics. Possessing the ability to turn liquid and to change forms he's the hot head of the group.

Mercury's body is thin and tall. His stand out sculpt features are his face and triangular chest plate. The chest plate is large and smooth covering from neck and shoulders to his waist and his symbol is recessed into it. His face is atypical with a very long nose and chin and a bit of a mischievous look. It's crisp sculpting. He has two relaxed hands and one additional accessory hand which I'll discuss more below.

His color scheme is red... that's about it. The symbol on his chest and head are both black and his irises are too. Still, that's all character accurate and it's pretty neat how it makes him pop as a figure.

I've noticed that DCUC has become a little more versatile in the articulation area so while it is mostly the same there are minor variances among figures. In regard to this guy he's got a decent ball neck, pin and post shoulders, double pin elbows and instead of cut wrists he has ball and pin wrists (see warning below). However the chest plate is glued in place and some of the other joints are glued too so there is no ab crunch and no waist cut joint (well, they're there but non-functional). I believe this was an aesthetic choice as Gold had these joints but his chest plate suffered a permanent bend outward at the bottom. He does have the universal hips, cut thighs, double pin knees and pin ankles so he's still no slouch in articulation or pose-ability.

He has his piece of collect and connect figure Bane. But additionally has a swappable left hand. He has a regular relaxed hand but comes wearing a big red pair of scissors that I love. It's very classic comic book and looks great as his hand appears to bubble up and morph into the movable scissors. There's even a joint at the finger tips so the scissors can turn. However, my *warning* is this, the hands take some pressure to swap and the pins are thin. I did swap them but when I tried to move the regular hand at the pin joint the peg snapped very easily. So, be careful, try to gently loosen the joint, the pegs are thin. Fortunately the scissor hand is the one I really want anyway.

He visually pops in color and sculpt and is decently articulated. And he does have the cool scissor accessory. But swapping and moving these small wrist joints can cause damage if not careful. Taking all into account I say 3 ½ but round to 4 because of general good will towards the overall character.

Bane is the tactical genius and venom user who broke Batman's back. As simplistic as his design is they somehow managed to make this a great figure. The sculpt is amazing with little details like the eyelets, stitching and bottoms on his boots, and like the zipper on his mask all hiding in there. His massive chest and arms look great as does the skin tone used. And speaking of the paint it's simple yet effective as well. The boots are a cool high gloss the, gloves more detailed than I thought they'd be and the mask looks perfect. Even his venom dispenser and tubing looks great. He's also as articulated as the smaller figures although some of the joints may differ. Bane is not as hulking as some recent C and C's but still huge - about 8 inches - in comparison to the regular figures. He's a surprising 5 star figure for me.
