Format: Hardcover
Ansel Adams, unforgettable nature photographer, applied his considerable skills to a 1967 coffee-table book commemorating the 100th anniversary of founding of the the University of California. "Fiat Lux" is a tour of the various major campuses, beginning with Berkeley, and featuring a lovely set of graceful black and white images of the architectural highlights of each. Adams does some nice work, using the steady California sunlight to set off the beautiful public spaces of each campus. Nancy Newhall adds a minimalist commentary.

The book also includes an interesting selection of photographs of students and faculty, at rest and in motion, in the khakis, button-down shirts, and neatly trimmed hair fashions that preceded the unrest of the late 1960's. "Fiat Lux' is highly recommended to fans of Ansel Adams and perhaps to older alumni of the University of California system.
