4.0 out of 5 stars A great first game for the little ones!
My children (ages 2 & almost 4) chose this game and they love it! The Grouchy Ladybug Game, a board game for ages 3 & up (has some small parts that could be a choking hazard) has illustrations based on the book by Eric Carle and a fun blue whale in the middle of the board that players can use to "slap" other players' ladybugs back to Start.

1.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating and nearly worthless
This board game was given to my daughters as a gift. Its design is horrible, and the game not very intriguing to my girls. The best thing they learned was counting the aphids. The part where they have to decide which animal is bigger is only so-so in educational value--we usually skip that part. The worst part of the whole thing is that the tail of the whale is made with...

The game teaches basic counting, size comparisons, and manners and has nice, brightly-colored, sturdy game pieces.

If you're looking for a fun, educational, not overly plastic game for your young children, I think this game is a good place to start!

This board game was given to my daughters as a gift. Its design is horrible, and the game not very intriguing to my girls. The best thing they learned was counting the aphids. The part where they have to decide which animal is bigger is only so-so in educational value--we usually skip that part. The worst part of the whole thing is that the tail of the whale is made with cardboard, as are the player pieces. The very act of putting the pieces in their stands causes the cheap material to crunch up. The cardboard is too thick for the plastic holders so all the pieces keeping popping out of the holder. Now the whale tail (my kids favorite part of the game) does not function at all because of the really cheap design. I felt like this game takes advantage of customers who like Eric Carle's book. It is so disappointing to have to throw this away after only getting it at Christmas less than 3 months ago.

I figure when a 4 yr. old says, "Grandma, is this game ever going to end?" I've made a bad choice for a gift. While she loved the book (which emphasizes good manners), the board game lacked that essential spark to keep it interesting. In fact, it's a typical, boring, counting game like dozens of others on the market.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pieces do not fit, August 3, 2009

As stated earlier, the cardboard pieces pop out of the stands provided. To make it fit better, I split the cardboard at the end of the whale tail, removed the inside layers of cardboard, and then glued the outside layers together to make it thinner.. something that works okay. Really needs a better design with better materials.

I purchased this game as a Christmas present from Amazon.com for my 4 year old niece. It would have been nice if I could have found it in a local store to read more about it rather than through Amazon.com's website. Amazon.com's website didn't provide too much information about the game. I would recommend it to anyone with young children as the game teaches them about manners - especially those with children getting ready to start pre-school.
