National Geographic's stunning photographs of landmarks and people from around the world form the centerpiece of this challenging card game. Images range from the familiar (Taj Mahal) to the face-scrunching I-know-I've-seen-that-somewhere (Hagia Sophia). Pictures of the World comes with a set of 25 3-inch by 4.5-inch photo cards and 25 question cards. Your object is to be the first to collect five cards by correctly answering five questions. Sounds simple, but the queries are far from being no-brainers: "Was this picture taken in a country that has a mountain with an elevation of 15,000 feet or more?" The answers, printed on the backs of the photo cards, can sometimes be intuited; others make you realize you know more about the NFL than the Southern Hemisphere.
All questions apply to every photo, so it's impossible to play the same game twice. As with My First Amazing World Explorer or Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?, players come away from the game with a lot of new knowledge. It doesn't take long for someone to collect the cards required to win, but you won't be able to resist playing all the way through the deck--we couldn't. This card game is for two or more players. --Julie Ubben
