5.0 out of 5 stars Georgia Football -- the numbers really do tell the story, November 3, 2008

I read every book that comes out on Georgia Football, but this is the first time I've seen the Dawgs' history written in such a fun and entertaining format. The premise is that there are 1,000 stories in this book -- all of them associated with a stat, some number from 1 - 1,000, and they are divided into ten chapters. Each chapter begins by profiling former players, coaches, games, or rivalries that have significance to Georgia fans -- and they are done quite well, I might add -- and then inside each chapter you get to read about the greatest moments in school history using the numerical framework . . . and it's actually, well, pretty cool. The best stats, as one would expect, are on Herschel Walker -- there was one in particular that compared his top speed to the acceleration of a Porsche 911 -- but current players like Matt Stafford and Knowshon Moreno are also in this book. If you like Georgia football, or want to buy a great gift for someone who does, then I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great look at Georgia football, November 3, 2008

I am a UGA grad who was transplanted by work straight into the heart of Gator country -- so to innoculate myself from the Orange and Blue I read as much as possible about the legendary program built by guys like Heisman, Butts, Trippi, Dooley, Russell, and on and on I could go, which is exactly the point of this book. There are 1,000 stories about Georgia football in this book, all of them related to a stat, and all of them prefaced by looks at the historic figures who made Georgia football the great program it is today. I loved this book -- and plan on giving one to all of my co-workers (who are Gator fans...) this holiday season.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Dawg book!, November 3, 2008
This review is from: University of Georgia Football: An Interactive Guide to the World of Sports (Paperback)
1,000 UGA facts, stats, and trivia in one book. Impossible? Guess again. The authors of this book did it and did it well. This is a MUST have book for all Georgia fans. Their ability to keep the reader engaged is fantastic. I couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting. I know what I'm getting all my friends for Christmas.

5.0 out of 5 stars UGA - Best SEC book on the market!, November 13, 2008
This review is from: University of Georgia Football: An Interactive Guide to the World of Sports (Paperback)
This is easily the best SEC book on the market. I own four of the Sports By The Numbers titles and this one did NOT disappoint. If you are a Bulldogs fan, you don't want to miss this one. Great gift idea for that hard to please DAWG!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great UGA book!, November 3, 2008
This review is from: University of Georgia Football: An Interactive Guide to the World of Sports (Paperback)
I'm not a huge SEC fan (more of a Big 12 fan), but I got this book as a gift because I just love football. If you live or love Georgia Football or even College football, this book is for you. The book has 1,000 stories about Georgia Football, including 10 chapter intros about certain players, coaches, and places. But what's even better is that the books links you to the author's website for more written, audio, and video material. This is a great gift book, an easy read, and for every Dawg fan out there!

5.0 out of 5 stars Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate! and all the rest are in this book., November 16, 2008

This book is about the Dawgs -- but it is also a great book that tells so many wonderful stories about the SEC in general that I think any fan of the conference would enjoy reading it. With a tribute to Larry Munson, profiles on guys like Herschel, and chapters laying out the bare facts on the greatest rivalry games on the schedule: Florida, Auburn, and Georgia Tech -- this book is required reading for the SEC sports fan, ESPECIALLY the Bulldawgs fans, of which there are legion!

Incidentally, this book is a series -- and this is the third one I have read -- I went out of my comfort zone and read an OU book, which really did a great job of capturing the importance of OU within the Big 12: UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA FOOTBALL: An Interactive Guide to the World of Sports (Sports By the Numbers) -- any OU or Big 12 fans, or heck, just plain college football fans, check it out -- these are really fun books to read.
