Book Description

November 1, 2009
When investigative journalist Kevin Gibson lets his cousin, a former cop, talk him into looking into a student's disappearance at Tremont University, he gets more than he bargained for. A former student--injured in a brutal attack two years ago and in a coma--may hold a critical piece of information that can solve the mystery. Meanwhile, an attractive coed continues to hide a very dark secret.
Tremont junior Brett Duncan is determined to find out what happened to his best friend, who's gone missing. Along with his girlfriend Ciera Kindle, Brett is drawn into a cunning world few know exist--a conspiracy involving faculty, students, and some well-connected people in high places. Beneath the campus' upstanding exterior lie many secrets, and a pulse-racing mystery with plenty of chills along the way.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent combination of mystery, suspense and the occult!, May 18, 2010
By
A. Pohren (IA United States) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The University (Paperback)
Don't you love that feeling of discovery?! That is exactly the feeling I had once I had a copy of The University by Jeffrey Leever in my hands. Just gazing upon the cover, seeing those ominous, though not overly prominent, eyes gazing over that the strong, slightly elegant and highly intellectual structure of solid stone, made me itch to delve within the pages.

I admit, I love a good suspense story with elements of the dark intertwined. The University combines suspense, mystery, intrigue, power and the occult in a very tight and excellently well written way. There is never a dull moment or a drawn out scene within this book, as possibilities and the race against life and death surface, quickly progress and leave the reader rapidly turning pages, breath held and anxious to discover the outcome. I do have to say that I had one or two things figured out before they were brought to light, however that did not deter nor detract from my desire to enjoy and be engulf within this story, racing through and finishing in a rather short time.

Who knew that college could be so deadly? That is most unexpectedly the case for Tremont University junior, Brett Duncan. When his best friend disappears and he finds himself in a room beneath the campus, taking in nightmarish views, Brett knows that something is extraordinarily wrong. Little does he realize exactly how wrong they are and how it could quickly cost him his life.

As he searches for answers and deals with the discovery of his friend's dead body, Brett experiences and sees things that will torture him for the rest of his life (what may be left of it). Brett is not alone, however. When former cop, Deswood, hears that strange things are taking place at the University, he knows that the evil that is happening must be stopped - and quickly. Calling his cousin, Keven Gibson, who happens to be an investigative journalist to help put an end to the unknown horrors that reside beneath the University campus.

However, things are very rarely what they seem and people are very rarely who they appear to be. Readers will be led on a chase against time and the unfolding plot of the darkest evil, as they twist and turn through the story. With a few unexpected surprises thrown in, rich action and fast paced suspense, The University is a story that is guaranteed to hold you captive and reading long after others have escaped to the warmth of their beds and into dreamland. *I do want to extend a word of warning that there are some graphic areas pertaining to sacrifices and of a sexual nature. This is not overly so, but there are a couple of spots that may offend the easily offended.

This is the first book that I have read by this author and I can't wait to read others by him. Jeffrey Leever is definitely an author to keep your eye on - especially if you are a lover of the mystery and suspense genre!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Solid Thriller from a Talented Young Author, September 25, 2010

I really, truly couldn't put it down. Sometimes the cliche is true. :)

Many authors who write in this genre deliver the goods from a technique standpoint. What sets Jeffrey Leever apart is the impact of his content. Yes it's a mystery, with the requisite suspense, intrigue, twists and turns. There are definitely some harrowing moments in this Midwestern tale. There are also some parts that simply made my heart soar. After reading the author's first book, I wasn't disappointed in this follow up novel at all. Another great book with a memorable story, in a college setting I could relate to.

Lots of mystery and unusual twists and turns, all in a setting many of us can relate to. Jeffrey Leever has interlaced the intrigue of his novel into a page turner that will not allow a reader the luxury of putting it down. It keeps tugging at you to read one more page. An enjoyable read.
