Unix Storage Management is a comprehensive guide to storage architectures and management, offering a broad base of crucial information to storage administrators interested in making the most of their corporate Unix systems. Authors Ray Kampa and Lydia Bell expound upon a wide range of topics, including general storage principles, storage project management, storage architectures, storage management software, network-connected storage solutions, backup/restoration strategies, performance analysis/management, and more.

Doubling as a reference for the storage manager, the book offers listings of key acronyms and vendor/organization websites, a wealth of technical details, and a primer on TCP/IP networks. Throughout, Bell and Kampa pepper their discussion with a historical perspective of the data storage industry. This book is an invaluable tool for both seasoned and novice storage managers who want to analyze present installations and plan for future upgrades.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect entry-point for unde understanding network storage, August 15, 2003
This review is from: Unix Storage Management (Paperback)
Some authors write in a style that demonstrates their technical mastery at the expense of reader comprehension. By contrast, some modern technical books talk down to their readers in a silly way. This book is like baby bear's porridge, just right. Not too hot, not too cold. Begining with the first enterprise storage technologies, the authors explain where we are today, how we got here and where we are going. Storage concepts are broken down piece by piece and presented in a concise, understandable way. I couldn't recommend this book more highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Subperb Storage Overview - Eagerly awaiting an updated copy!, August 18, 2010
This review is from: Unix Storage Management (Paperback)
I originally purchased this book several years ago when I took on a new position in the world of technical support for a very popular storage application. I didn't really give it a thorough review until recently and found that I had a true gem. I really enjoyed every aspect of the book. The author's were brilliant in how they laid out the book and the information was presented in such a way that even my 10 year old could understand. I love the notes through-out and the list of acronyms at the end of each chapter. I was truly hoping that there was a revision or update to the book or atleast in the works. If so, I would definately purchase it.

Thanks for keeping it simple!
