I heard about this game and then saw it in the store and thought I would check it out. The game puts you in the role of a vampire hunter. The object is to make your way through the vampire's castle, reach his inner sanctum before he escapes, and kill him.The innovative thing about this game is the "castle" in the middle of the board. The castle is a lantern of sorts, which provides either red or blue light, depending on the setting. Red light represents day, blue light represents night. Depending on whether it's day or night, the game board changes! Tiles representing tombstones or villagers by day become zombies, hidden weapons, or werewolves at night. Even the faces of the dice change! The changing aspect of the game is what makes it really neat. However, I'm not sure the game has a lot of re-play value. The gimmick is neat, but really only delights the players once, after that, it's your standard "get to the end" board game. In addition, the game says it must be played in a "dimly lit room." What it really means is a very very dark room, and you have to sit right on top of the board. One last aspect of the game is the pieces used to represent the vampire hunters. There are two men and two women figures, and all are great. They are well detailed (to be plastic), and were really a pleasant surprise. To sum it up, this game gets great points for originality, but lacks replay value beyond that you might find in other "get to the end games" like chutes and ladders or candyland.

When my sister and I saw this game at the store it looked interesting. We both enjoyed the Buffy the Vampire Slayer board game, and while we're not D&D types we do enjoy a good RPG type board game. This has to be the lamest game I've ever played, and as a 28 year old woman I can assure you I don't use the word 'lame' often. But frankly there is just no other word to describe it. The lantern is a cute gimmick, it really is. And it might've been good if the game surface were larger and the game more challenging. But the fact is there is ZERO challenge involved. When you do get to the bad guys it doesn't matter what kind of weapon you have, it doesn't matter if you have advanced to a certain level of strength. You just roll a dice and if you get a hit you win, if you get a skull you go back a short distance. Even killing the main bad guy isn't a challenge. If you don't manage to kill him in your requisite three hits, the next time it only takes as many as you missed to finish him (ie if you got two out of three hits you only need one hit next time), and that also applies to whoever gets there after you. They don't even explain the rules well, no discussion of whether you should start on night or day, no explanation for why there are blue and red cards. Overall I'd give this game a 0 out of 5 if I could. ...

The instructions were complex, but not too cumbersome. Getting through the game took about 10 minutes and was not terribly interesting or fun. A big problem we had was that it had to really be dark to see the difference between the night and day markings. Then we couldn't see the dice. In all fairness we played it through only once, and after reading the other reviews we'll try again. But, I really don't think we're missing anything crucial. Maybe it's a matter of preference, but we're pretty easily amused, and this one just didn't do it.

We bought this game and found it to be fun, but I feel that the age category is wrong. My 7 year old boys love the game. It's easy enough for them and once the rules are explained it's not too complicated. I don't know the reason for the blue vs. red cards. The blue ones seem pointless. The down side of this game is that it has to be nighttime to play since it's hard to see the markings on the board otherwise.

I first played this game the other night. I liked the concept of the game, but didn't much care for the rules as they were written. I've since come up with other rules, available at my website ... .The game is fun, but like the other reviews have said, it is structured like most "get to the goal" games. It is a solid board game, and I think it is a fun way to pass the time with friends if there's not enough time for a tabletop rpg. The miniatures, monster tiles, and little lantern that came with the game are also recyclable as props for a tabletop rpg. This adds a lot of value to the game. Even after you finish with the board game, you still have a lot of very valuable bits.

Great game concept. Saw the ad on tv and decided to check out the game. It was interesting at first, but I don't think it has much of a replay value. After the first play, it was more of a "get to the end game". You have to play in a dark room to be able to make out the difference. But then it gets kind of really dark to see the dice...

I really enjoyed playing this game. At first when I bought it, I thought it would only be fun to play it once or twice but it's really addicting. I'd recommend this to kids of any ages (after all, I am 18).

too easy too win the object of the game is to get all three wepons and battle dracula one1. you can get all three wepons in one turn 2. all you need to do is roll ahit on the 4 sided dice 2 time (hit is on 3 sides of the dice) which makes the game short and pointless i was thinking of having a game with my family for an hour or so so i bought the game it ended up being 5 min.
