1.0 out of 5 stars Beware of 24" system!
I was so excited to find this item as I was convinced it would add a lot to my limited pantry space. Well, I can't say how the 18" system holds up, but the 24" setup is way too flimsy. The back braces are PLASTIC (actually 4 separate units for each side that you slip together creating weak joints that pop apart) and unable to hold much weight at all without buckling...

I was so excited to find this item as I was convinced it would add a lot to my limited pantry space. Well, I can't say how the 18" system holds up, but the 24" setup is way too flimsy. The back braces are PLASTIC (actually 4 separate units for each side that you slip together creating weak joints that pop apart) and unable to hold much weight at all without buckling (ditto for the baskets which change shape too when even a small amount of weight added). Definitely you could not put cans on these as the pictures suggest. Also, wire baskets have wide spaces that will allow smaller items, like spice bottles, to tip over so doesn't work for those as I had hoped. Anyway, if we hadn't drilled the necessary holes in the door to mount this, it would go right back to the vendor. Instead, I will be storing lightweight items like paper towels, crackers, tea boxes, etc. in hopes of getting some use out of it and try to keep that door closed so I don't have to look at the obvious sagging in some places. Hope I have saved someone else this same experience.

1.0 out of 5 stars 18" adjustable door rack., January 3, 2007

The 18" rack is a suitable size capable of storing groceries , but when loaded with products, the weight pulls the screws out of the door. Not sturdy enough for the purpose intended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pantry Door Rack review, September 21, 2008
This review is from: Adjustable Door Rack (Electronics)
Overall, now thqt the rack has been up a month, I am happy with it.

When I pulled the PLASTIC rails out of the box, I groaned thinking this was just going to be a cheap fall-apart item. However, the plastic rails have held up well under full load and when it came time to trim them off to fit my needs, they cut easily with a box knife.

The only disappointment I had was with the hollow wall anchors that came with it. They are the cheapest and poorest designed anchors I have ever seen. Save yourself a bunch of heartache and get some good hollow wall anchors at your local hardware store when mounting this rack.

This product initially appears cheaply manufactured - with plastic rails and light wire baskets. Yet, the simplicity of the product did not all compromise its effectiveness as a reliable door-mounted storage unit. Once fully assembled, it is sturdy and not a single item has fallen from a basket, despite some vigorous opening and closing of the door - even vertical Saran Wrap boxes stay in their spots. This unit is perfect for storing light bulb packages, cereal and other lighter items. It is certainly not intended for heavier items like soup cans. Adding this unit was like adding another pantry. I would purchase this item again - and wish I had bought it 5 years ago.

2.0 out of 5 stars POS, December 21, 2010

1. The railings that hold the shelves are plastic
2. The railings that hold the shelves are 4 separate pieces that fit together but do not snap or attach to each other
3. The sides of the shelves are open- anything short falls out the side
4. The hangers that come with it do not have a lip & slip right into the door
5. The 18" version does not fit well on a door with raised panels (ie most interior doors)
6. The "adjustable" shelves only fit one way or you can't use all the shelves
7. Because of the way the railings attach to each other, it is easy to install them not perfectly straight- in which case the shelves need to be bent to get them into the slots
8. The shelves bend under any weight or pressure

Hope this helps.

Easy to install, don't load up with canned goods b/c it'll be too much weight but it can handle a few. Perfect though for boxed foods, packets, spices, bottles, etc. Overall, I don't see how you could beat it for the price!

4.0 out of 5 stars Adjustable door rack needs some work., April 14, 2008

In order to install this product, I had to purchase different anchors and screws. The ones provided would not work on a hollow core wood door. (Not sure where else one would install this type of rack) The ones provided had two flaws: 1) there was a "wing" which protruded on each side of the anchor, which just tore up the wood and 2) there was no "lip" on the anchor, so when it was pounded into place, it fell through the hollow core of the door. After investing an additional $10 at the hardware store, the installation went great. When I began to place items on the rack, I found that the open ends also created a problem, as small items fell off. I solved this one by going to the 99 cent store and purchasing small bins to fit on the shelves. You could solve this one in manufacturing by running a wire across the middle of each rack, wrapping it around the sides. However, I love my new storage space.

I found the wire shelves to be as expected. Each of the vertical supports are several pieces of plastic channel that fit together. I decided to use two lengths of some steel channel from a hardware store, to fashion my own for more support, by drilling the correct size holes. I found the delievery to be quick and am very happy with the purchase for the price I spent.

I like it, but I wish it was stronger. The supports are plastic and seem cheap.
