We had this toy about a week and the sounds stopped. The set could use a few more parts to the track to expand the possibilities for set up. I wish the train could go backwards with the remote control.

We have three sons, ages 6, 4, and 2. We own just about every train toy ever made, including tons of Brio and Thomas toys. Of all the train toys we've purchased, this one is by far the favorite. The kids love it because it's easy to put together and the pieces actually stay in place. They also love the remote controls and all of the "jobs" that they can make their trains do. We love it because for less than $40 we have a toy that will entertain all of our children for hours at a time! They create elaborate stories about their trains and will act them out on the GeoTrax.

My one piece of advice is to invest in a very (very!) large plastic bin in which to store the train and all its pieces. We now own the train set, fire engine set, and construction set, and they do take up quite a bit of space. I'll gladly find the room for it, though- the kids love it!

As railfan parents of a young railfan, our family is attracted to train-related toys... as long as they don't have cartoon faces on the front, which drives me crazy. I am so impressed with this set, which shows a lot of thought and careful design. My engineer's hat is off to the folks who did such a great job.

First, the set is wonderfully complete. While there are plenty of fun add-ons to buy, you can have oodles of fun with the set as is. There is enough track and enough activity centers to make it a very fulfilling toy. The value for the money is excellent.

The track goes together and stays together well. The train is designed to either be pushed along by the child or to run via the remote control. Both work well, and both are a lot of fun. I am impressed that it is seamless to move between the two modes - the wheels don't lock up or anything. It is pretty easy for even my three-year old to put the cars together and put them on the track. The cars stay together (barring derailment accidents).

The train climbs the hill quite well, and though the fast roll down is not realistic, it makes my daughter squeal with delight. Impressively, even though we have it laid out with a sharp turn at the bottom, the train stays on the track just fine.

I love all the assorted centers! They hook on to the track, which keeps them from getting jostled out of place and puts them at just the right distance. At the pipeworks, you can dispense pipes right on to the waiting train (the smokestack goes up and down, too!) and then drive the train over to the gantry where you can grab the pipes off the train. You do have to use your hands to pry the pipes out of the gantry once grabbed. The coal mine comes with enormous lumps of coal that you can drop into a waiting car, and there are also two boxes to use as cargo.

I do have some complaints. First, the engine especially is not very aesthetically pleasing. The cars are fine. I don't really like the red power light on top (it could've been a white headlight) and it's very squat and could look more like an engine. This is a quibble - functionally it works well, and I respect that. Also, the 'chug chug chug' noise is too loud for the quality of the speakers. Fortunately, you can run without that. It might be nice if the remote had a separate button that would let you blow the whistle once without activating the other sounds. You can kind of do this with the remote, but it is a little tricky. Lastly, the switches might be better if they were a bit stiffer - we have had the trains over time move the switches.

Overall, a wonderfully toddler-friendly set, designed to be workable by small kids without parent intervention, and hours and hours of big fun. Ideally, your child will let you play, too!

Im sure this will be on many Santa lists this year. Great toy for all kids, from toddlers to 6 and 7 year olds. Its fun, expandable, well built, keeps their interest, so much to do! And all at a reasonable price. What more could we want!

Our almost 3 year old loves this train. We also like the idea that it is expandable and can grow with her. A great toy that can be played with for years and the layout can always be changed to keep a child's interest. Great product!!!

Best train set I've ever seen for little ones. My four year old LOVES it. The Thomas set went in the closet, maybe for good at this point.

One reviewer mentions that this train goes "soooo slow", which is very true, but I think it's better than the alternative. I've seen toy trains go way too fast for a child to enjoy. The slow speed is perfect in my opinion for a young imagination to take it all in and enjoy all the various add-ons rather than trying to keep up with it. Just an opinion though.

This is by far one of the best value toy trains on the market right now. Buy it with confidence. Fisher price out did themselves this time.

My 3 year old absolutely LOVES this toy! This is a toy he plays with daily. Every week or so, we sit together to try to design new routes for the two trains that he has. He knows how to operate this train on his own and has no reason to constantly call for Mommy or Daddy to help in operating this set. Dad and I even find a challenge in helping him design a track where all switches operate in sequence and tracks flow smoothly.
Overall, I am very, very delighted with this toy. I have purchased both extention track sets, all extra vehicle sets, and all rescue sets. The only recommendation I would give FP to improve this set would be to add a few shorter curve pieces, a few shorter straight track pieces, and some riser pieces, to give more versitile layout options. This in view of the fact that we have tried to customize many layouts of our own and found the standard pieces not to fit. Our family would prefer more options in terms of layout and design.
I have recommended this toy to ALL of my son's friends' parents. Their child comes to play, falls in love with Geotrax, then begs to stay just to play with Ryan's train.
Excellent Job, FP, Just please add more adaptable track pieces!

We just found about GeoTrax by coincidence our 2 1/2 year old is just crazy about trains.
We were wishing for a train that was easy for him to handle and play with but that would also not blow our budget.
GeoTrax is that and much much more. The day we purchased the train system we were thinking that it was nice and priced right but that it probably was not at easy to put together as they claimed and that the great sounds of the display were only for the display... Were we ever pleasantly surprised!!
Except for the bridge piece the whole thing snaps very easily and stays together. The bridge is a little tricky but once it is in it stays together really well. The engine even keeps going when two track pieces are not together all the way. That is amazing! It is very forgiving.
Our son learned how to use the remote control the first day! He also can easily add and remove wagons. He absolutely adores this toy. The sounds are the best I've seen for a toy. The sounds are amazingly realistic.
We are sure our son will learn a lot using this toy because of the different ways the track can be configured and the ingenious loading and construction activities.
This toy is so much fun my husband and I kept playing with it after our little one went to sleep (and it was not easy to tear him away)
The engineering and design of this toy is outstanding. GeoTrax is a winner -- Way to go Fisher Price!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great new train set!, August 20, 2003
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars

The starter geotrax set has a few buildings, a few train cars, a battery operated train with remote, and track pieces that can be arranged in a variety of different ways. The track snaps together very securely, but easily enough that a 3 year old could do it, especially with some help.

My youngest boy got this for his 2nd birthday, and he and his almost 4 year old brother really love it. I'm pretty sure the box said for ages 2.5 and up, and even at 2 my son gets a lot of play value. He can work the very simple remote, link the trains together, and make sure they stay on the track. His older brother can play with all the buildings, loading and unloading cargo. I expect he could put the track together if he tried, it is very easy to do, and the track pieces are extremely durable. My only two complaints so far are the amount of batteries this set uses, especially after you buy the separate battery powered cars, and the fact that the battery operated train only goes forward, not backward. But that does make it easier for little kids. All in all, I think this toy will be a favorite of my kids for years to come.

Blake got the larger train set for his 6th birthday and then bought all the smaller sets with birthday money, except for the passenger train with remote, which we are still searching for. He loves it! So many parts which do so much. Price is very reasonable for how well it is made.

My son loves this train! My husband and I were a little hesitant to buy it for him, as he is only two, but he can run the entire train all by himself, and he refuses to play with anything else! We love the durability, and the sound effects are great. We have now bought almost every piece that goes with the original set, and intend on buying more as they come out. A must!
