This stove design is very good in theory, but when they made it they did not test it. The air vents need to be much bigger. Even when fully open, the creosote builds up in the stove pipe so fast that it chokes off the chimney. Chimney and spark arrestor need to be larger to accomodate the smoke. You cannot make a fire small enough to keep smoke from coming out of the door when you open it. Don't let the apparent great design fool you. This stove is terrible.

With all due respect to the previous reviewers:

I bought this stove for the great price and the portability. I do a lot of outdoor and winter camping and wanted a lightweight stove for tent heat and small cooking. I tested for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised. I can understand the previous complaints of the paint burning off etc. but to me that is a small price to pay for rustoleum spray.

In my opinion the problems with excessive smoke is similar to any other fireplace fire: the fire needs to heat the unit enough to draw cold air to follow the hot air up the chimney. Also opening up both the front and back vents will just cause cold air to pass through from back to front. I would suggest making a small hot fire with only the front door open for air (keep the back closed) Initially there will be smoke until the unit heats up enough. I did not have any problems with excessive smoke during my test. I was very satisfied with this product

Amen to the first review! I wish this had been advertised with the brand name so we could have read reviews before we bought it. Looks great, but smokes no matter what you do. Terrible waste of money.
