I've always been a big fan of Japanese Teriyaki, and every once in a while I used to go through a local drive through that served a steaming hot bowl of rice topped with sliced grilled chicken breast and topped with their thick, sweet teriyaki sauce. It was absolutely delicious and very cheap, but unfortunately they went out of business.

In the meantime I stopped eating teriyaki because I didn't realize there was a thinner version, more like soy sauce. Enter: Kikkoman Teriyaki Marinade and Sauce. I was at the store looking to pick up some soy sauce when this caught my eye. I was surprised at how thin it was, it has the consistency of soy sauce. I was very pleasantly surprised when I got home and cooked up a pot of basmati rice and topped it with this teriyaki sauce, it was wonderful. It's slightly sweet, full of flavor, and has 610 mg of sodium vs. 920 mg of sodium in one tablespoon of soy sauce.

I now always prefer this to soy sauce and it's become a staple in our household.

This version of Kikkoman's Teriyaki sauce is many many steps above the normal Kikkoman sauce. It's texture and taste is just wonderful. While taste is subjective, I am subjected to give it five points. Just wonderful as a marinade for meat or veggies or just poured over a blow of rice. This is now the only Teriyaki sauce I will order. Much Much better then what I pay more for at my local small town store. Just Wonderful.

Update: It seems that Amazon is merging reviews. The review above was for the product: Kikkoman Teriyaki Baste & Glaze With Honey & Pineapple, 12.8-Ounce Bottle (Pack of 3).

While the displayed product is good, it is not what my review was about

I enjoy stir fry. Healthy dish. Vegetables. Chicken or tofu or some other protein.

I normally also create fried rice to go with the stir fry.

Teriyaki sauce? I usually put a small amount in with the stir fry, to add the delightful taste of the sauce to the collected veggies and protein. Fried rice? I used to add a bit of soy sauce after serving. But now? I add teriyaki sauce instead, adding its nice richness to the meal.

So, I have used this product for years and have no intention to change that. . .

My favorite teriyaki marinade and sauce. Not too sweet, and certainly not too salty. I've tried some others, including a decent sugar-free brand, but I keep coming back to Kikkoman. I love this stuff. And, I know this is odd, but if I'm BBQ'ing chicken (using this sauce), the well-cooked, crispier sections of chicken are actually my favorite. :) I'm also the kind of guy who likes the end cuts of beef, so I'm perhaps a bit odd that way. haha

Of all the brands of teriyaki sauce I've sampled, the Kikkoman is the best. It has a rich, pleasantly sweet teriyaki flavor, one that works well both in traditional stir-fry recipes and as a marinade. As a marinade it's especially good on beef dishes, particularly steaks. It's also good for marinading chicken breasts. We always keep a bottle of this marinade on hand, and we use a lot of it. We wouldn't be without it.
