Product Description

Editorial Review

Sometimes you can't help but wonder about the original meeting where the idea for a toy was first introduced. Because in order to get Operation Brain Surgery produced, someone must have sat down in a room somewhere and explained that they were proposing a game based on brain surgery. And that they were serious. As strange as that meeting must surely have been, the game is actually a lot of fun in a bizarre kind of way. In fact, its very strangeness probably makes it even more fun. The patient (same big-nosed guy from the original Operation game) gives encouragement and ribbing to players throughout the game. The object is to remove objects such as a bird (for "bird brain"), train (for "train of thought"), and egg (for "egg head"). As in Operation, it takes a steady hand to avoid upsetting the patient and win the game. --John Moe

Product Description

Pick this patient's brains by becoming a brain surgeon. Reach into his head and try to find three crazy things that are on his mind. Be gentle and quick. Hurry and pick while the timer still ticks. If you're too rough or you take too long, his nose lights up and you lose your turn. Game includes electronic talking head, eight plastic "funatomy" objects, twelve picture cards, label sheet and instructions. For 1 to 4 players. Requires 3 "AA" alkaline batteries (not included).

I don't know about the parts being easily recognized. I'm a certified teacher, and I still have trouble. That being said, my family loves playing this game together. It's quick and easy gameplay that my three year old, seven year old, myself and my husband can have fun doing together. How often can you get a game that accomplishes that? And it's easy to make up variations to make the game more difficult too. Ours has been very durable; and it's been through the mill. I've gotta give this one a thumbs up ... especially at the new lower price!

4.0 out of 5 stars fun for toddlers and their families, June 25, 2003

This is a bit like the original Operation game, but instead you reach into the top of your patient's head, try to find an object that matches one of your cards, and pull it out without jiggling too much and setting off the buzzer. There are 8 objects (train of thought, light bulb, egghead, bird brain, etc). We've found that we play our own variations more successfully than the game as defined in the instructions and though it won't keep the family busy for a long time, it is fun for a while.

Classic operation brought back great memories but it was too advance/frustrating for my four soon to be five year old to really get into. I like this new version better. It's challenging and exciting enough to provide a since of accomplishment for a young child, while keeping an adult from getting bored. A real family game time treat.
