Magnets don't stay on fridge well,
By
This review is from: Magnet School (Toy)
This toy is OK, but when I put the magnets on my fridge, some of them just slide off. My daughter (14 mos.) enjoys standing on the box and putting the letters back in. Overall it's fun, but not as great as I expected.

I really wanted to like this toy, for I like most Parents brand toys, but I should have read other reviews first. First time out of the box and about 6 of the magnets slid down the fridge. My son did like finding the magnets that fit on each card (puzzle-concept), but there is no excuse for a magnet school with several magnets that are faulty! I will probably write to the manufacturer and get the faulty magnets replaced, but for the same money or a few dollars more, my son has really been enjoying the Parents animal hospital toy, with lots of pretend play...if you're wavering, get that. Oh, and it's true that it's hard to fit all magnets and cards inside the box.

The magnet school was a hit with both my children and their friends. I bought this set as a gift for a friend who really enjoyed playing with it. My only complaint was that it was a little difficult to close once all the cards and magnets were inside.

I got this for my son when he was about a year old and for the first year or so his favorite way to "play" was to just scatter the pieces everywhere. Fun, huh?But now he adores this set. I turn the cards over and we play it like a game, he picks a card and tells me what letter it is and then we search for it. He knows almost all his letters already thanks to the work we've done with this! We've never tried the magnets on the fridge because he has another set of fridge magnets but it would have been awesome if the cards did have magnetic strips in the impressions of the letter so they'd stay attached to the card. But they're still plenty fun the way they are!!!

I actually received this as a gift for my son at Christmas and his therapist saw it and loved it. I have been looking for this for quite some time and was so happy to find it. Great gift and great seller. Everything was in A1 condition.

My 2 year old has had this for a year and likes it. The letters are a good size and the cards are pretty durable. My quibble is with the choice of words for the illustrations - why don't the designers ever consider how these will be used! When attempting to match the phonic sound of the letter and read the word on the card there are several bad choices - eg. I for Ice and O for Owl. why not igloo and orange?

In the old days, the cards would have been made out of tin, and my daughter (24 mo) would have had even more fun slotting the letters in their appropriate places on the cards, which do have slight indentations where the letters can go. The problem is that the cards are cardboard so the letters just fall right off. They could have at least lined the slots for the letters with metal if they wanted to keep the cards made out of cardboard to save money. That said, it gets played with almost every day, and my daughter really enjoys just taking the letters and the cards out and putting them back in again, and everything has held up incredibly well. The whole set still looks new. Would buy again.

The letters and cards are a great learning tool. I set all the letters face up on the floor for my daughter. I ask her to find the letter A and put it in the Ant card. If she has difficulty finding the letter then I tell her what color it is to limit her choices. Then we talk about the sound the letter makes. We precede like this all the way through the alphabet. We line the cards up across the room and sing our ABC's when finished and point to each letter card. This is a fun way to learn her letters. It keeps her attention. We do not use the letters on the fridge. We just play the game on the floor.Sometimes it is a little difficult to get the letter to fit on the card but the most important point is that they learn their letters and have fun doing it.

I bought this for my son at a consignment sale. I figured it would be year before he was ready for it, but he loves it! LOVES it. He's 20 months old now. He calls he "play game" and asks for it constantly. All he does it put the letters on the cards where they go, but it is a great opportunity for me to tell him which letter is which w.out him feeling like we are "working."My only complaint is that the case is not easy to put the cards and letters in and out of. You have to put the cards in first and then the letters and numbers. My son can't do this himself and it is kind of a pain. As for the letters not fitting into the spaces- I have no idea what the other reviewers are talking about. We have no issues with this at all. I don't know about them sticking to the fridge, we sit at a table with it. I don't think they are meant to be refridgerator magnets otherwise the cards wouldn't have come with them. |
