4.0 out of 5 stars New batteries go under the right burner
There is a small screw in the right burner - lift up that burner, and it takes 3 AA batteries. I think it might have come with the batteries already in it, so it took some looking (and a lot of unscrewing) to find them.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Small!
i was all set to buy my 2 year old this kitchen. i loved how it looked on amazon. however, i didn't take note of the size, and got a real shock when i went to the store! its tiny! i thought my daughte would be able to stand and play with it, but instead she would have to kneel. and even then, the kitchen would come up to her torso. if you're looking to buy a play kitchen...

All the kids like using this kitchen, and it can help keep them out of our hair when we are cooking. I am a bit annoyed by the way the microwave door comes off so easily though.

For what it is, it is pretty good. Probably closer to 3.5 stars than 4.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Kitchen at a Great Price!, October 2, 2004

My 2 1/2yr old son loves this kitchen. He especially likes how the mixer shakes when its being played with and the microwave lights up when there is food being " cooked ". It comes with a decent amount of playfood compared to other small kitchens and is resonablly priced as well. We bought him a personalized apron and a llittle miniature chef's hat. He LOVES to play with this toy and likes to make his baby brother " yum yum snacks ". He also has the BBQ Grill and the Lawnmower. These talking toys are durable and fun. They provide hours of quality playtime. He likes me to pretend to cook with him. Honestly, I like it too!

I ORDERED THREE TOYS AND WHEN THE TOYS ARRIVED JUST FIVE DAYS AGO I HAD TWO BOXES, ONE BIG ONE AND ONE MEDIUM ONE.I OPENED THE BIG ONE THINKING THAT THAT WAS THE BOX THE KITCHEN CAME IN BECAUSE IT LOOKS SO BIG ONLINE IN THE PICTURE.COME TO FIND OUT THE KITCHEN WAS IN THE MEDIUM BOX.I WAS SO MAD.MY 2YEAR OLD IS A LIL TALL AND EVEN WHEN SHE WAS ON HER KNEES IT WAS STILL TO SMALL FOR HER.SHE HAD TO ACTUALLY SIT DOWN TO PLAY WITH IT. HUNCHED BACK AND ALL.IT WAS REALLY BETTER FOR MY 1YEAR OLD TO PLAY WITH THAN MY 2YEAR OLD ONLY BECAUSE OF THE SIZE.THE EDUCATIONAL VALUES FAR OUTWAYS THE SIZE OF THE TOY.BUT IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING THAT IS ACTULLAY BIG ENOUGH FOR A 2YEAR OLD OR OLDER TRY KIDKRAFT KITCHEN$200, INTERNATIIONAL PLAYTHINGS ELECTRONIC TEFAL KITCHEN $60, FISHER PRICE BARBIE KITCHEN $60. I'M ACTUALLY THINKING ABOUT SENDING IT BACK OR IF YOU PURCHASE FROM WALMART YOU CAN JUST TAKE IT TO ONE OF THE STORES TO AVOID SHIP/HAND CHARGES. KEEP ALL PACKINGING EVEN IF YOU THINK YOURE NOT GOING TO RETURN IT. YOU NEVER KNOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars Krazy Talking Kitchen--and lots of fun!, July 6, 2005

My 2.5 year-old son fell in love with this at ToysrUs, so guess what came home with us after I saw how much fun he had playing with the store model? He loves this silly thing, though I sometimes wish the microwave beeps were quieter or there was volume reduction button somewhere on it.

He "cooks" me pancakes and eggs in the morning when I make my own coffee, then sits next to me at the big table sipping out of the little cup, saying "mmm, hot coff". It's so cute, I want to cry! He's had it a week and a half and seems to like it as much as the first day, so I am glad I got it.

The price, considering what some of the "realistic" plastic kitchens cost--some are $80+ people!--is reasonable to me. He mixes in his dollar-store plastic food with the stuff that came with this and is as happy as can be making popcorn, cooking croissants and making "milky shake" for daddy in the little mixer.

He kneels in front of it or sits on the floor to use it, but so what? I do that when I sit with him to play with his bigger toys and then he copies me anyway, whether he could stand upright or not.

Great gift for a boy or girl due to its gender-neutral coloring (not too pink or purply) and a fun one, too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best toy!!!!, January 11, 2005
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

My 28 month old son has been eyeing this toy in the store since like Thanksgiving. It was about $44 at our Walmart so I felt that was a little high. He would play with it everytime we went to the store. Then they marked it down, then down again and I bought it today finally for $20.
Let me tell you, it was worth the $44. My son was so excited. He played with this toy from 2 this afternoon until about 10 tonight! He absolutely loves it.
He has been making mommy and daddy popcorn and cookies all night. I even gave him a potholder to use. He is so excited. This toy is worth every penny.
Yes it is small so if you are looking for a stand up and play kitchen with cabinets and everything, then look elsewhere.
If you are looking for something to make your little one's imagination soar, this is the toy for you!
The only thing about it is that it should come with a plate and spoon and/or fork. I had to give him a little tupperware top to use as a plate to put his eggs on. It comes with a cup but not a plate. How odd.
A potholder would be nice too but we made do and he still loves it. We will get him other pretend food to play with with it.
I don't care what the other reviews say, this toy is great.
If you are wondering about the size, my suggestion is to go to the store and have a look at it first before you buy it.
Way to go Playskool!

5.0 out of 5 stars My 3 year old loves it!, March 10, 2005

I had been hesitant to get this kitchen for my son. When looking at it in the store, the dialog didn't seem to have anything to do with what button you pushed.
Well, my son got it as a gift for his third birthday. He didn't even wait until it was completely unwrapped! He climbed up onto to table & started playing!
Once you flip the switch from "demo" to "play", this kitchen is wonderfully interactive! He just cracks up when it "cooks" eggs or pancakes! The toy doesn't know which item is actually being "cooked", but my son doesn't seem to care.
This is one toy that gets played with every day!

4.0 out of 5 stars worth the money, January 26, 2005

My 4 year old insisted that Santa would bring this. We had a kitchen (one with a sink, microwave, stove, refrigerator, freezer) that never got used and I was very hesitant on buying this. I bought this when it was $35 and I think it was the best spent money. Yes, it is small and you have to sit on the floor or set it on a table to use it. This is the one toy that has gotten continued use since Christmas. My kids love to play with pretend food, but not until we got this kitchen have they actually used a pretend kitchen to prepare it (as I said before we have a pretend kitchen already).

I bought this for my 2 year old twins with some of their xmas gift certificates and my son has not stopped playing with it for 2 days!!! My daughter hasn't really had a chance to play with it because her brother won't let her near it!!. He like to take the "cookies" and hide them in the microwave and say," Where cookie go?" (his first 3 word sentence). I agree with the other reviewers, in that it is small, but i don't have room for one of the turbo-kitchens, and it is perfect for 2 year olds. i can see where 3&up would get bored very quick. I bought extra plastic food to go with it and he is having a ball!!! Great if you have limited space!!!!
