Fun to play with but broke WAY too soon,
By JillW (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Talking Cash Register (Toy)
My 3 year old and her friends and cousins of various ages loved the cash register. (especially the scanning and microphone features) HOWEVER, within a month it had broken. None of the electronic features worked. The toy had only received moderate use in pretty gentle conditions so it must have been very fragile. We received the item as a gift. Perhaps we received a lemon and if I didn't have a newborn and a job keeping me to busy to follow up, Amazon would have exchanged it. But I didn't have any time to spare. I also couldn't find a website or phone number for Summit to follow up with them. Its really a shame because now that my daughter is 4, I think the toy would be a fun way for her to start learning basic principals of addition and subtraction without even realizing it. Incidentally, a 2 1/2 year old was over recently and within minutes snapped the microphone off (which didn't matter I guess since it wasn't working for us) so keep this toy away from the younger kids. Maybe it is worth buying IF you know you can return it if it breaks within the first few months and IF you have time to deal with the hassle of trying to exchange it. If somebody could guaranty me that it would be durable and last a couple years, I'd recommend it in a heartbeat since it is an enjoyable toy.

my 3 year old daughter received this as a christmas gift. it has been great fun for her to play with until recently. the product has held up really well for the amount of time we have had it except for the microphone. the microphone is so flimsy that the more it was played with the more it broke until finally it has completely seperated from the cash register.

I love this toy!,

I love this toy! Oh yeah, the girls like it too.First, the microphone is a lot of fun. We're always asking for "clean-up on aisle 5," or some such excuse to play with the mic. And the 18 mo. old likes to put her whole mouth on it and grunt. Second, we like the scanner. I slapped the imitation UPC stickers on every small item we could find in the toy chest, from doll "baby powder" to a fake pork chop. Then we scan them on the register (my 4 year old niece's favorite part) and bag the items. And the 4 year old likes the calculator too. It gave her mommy and me a rest from lending her our calculators all the time. One problem: we're always losing the money, and not all fake money fits in the register. We're also always losing the "credit card" that goes to the set. Perhaps the manufacturer can include more than one card with the next version?

So much fun to play with,

My Aunt bought me this cash register and my friends and me love to play with it. We use it all the time and play store and scan groceries and talk in the microphone. the neatest thing about it is that the stickers you get with it really get scanned by the cash register and get added up like in a real store. My older sister even used my cash register in the yard to sell lemonade. she said she used it like a real cash register at the grocery store

Like many other reviewers, we truly loved the idea of this toy - great for learning about money, fun scanning & mic features, acceptable color scheme - but first the mic stopped working (within a couple of weeks after Christmas) then the number screen froze but the register sounds continued. By the end of January everything had completely stopped working (the cash drawer still pops out). We, also, could not find any information about the manufacturer and the gift-giver had long since thrown out receipts. We're quite bummed. Worth noting - the LeapPad register my mom got as a freebie when purchasing a Leapster is still going strong...I hadn't liked it as much because of the fake-looking money, weird 'price tags' and annoyingly perky voice but hey, it WORKS!

The best toy my kids own!,
This review is from: Talking Cash Register (Toy)
This has turned out to be the best toy my kids own. We even have it in the school classroom and kids of all ages love it. We especially like the bar code scanner that reads real bar codes.

Peice of junk.,

We got the green and gray version from the local Toys R Us store. The drawer didn't open. You had to pry it to get it open. We put the credit card in the drawer for safe keeping when not in use. It got stuck in the back behind the drawer, and we couldn't get it out. The scanner quit working after two weeks. We took it back and exchanged it for another. The drawer on this one didn't open either. You can scan the same bar code and get different results. The cash register pronounces the number 30 as "Eighty." Yeah, that's the way to teach them their numbers! You should consider this a disposible toy. It's good for a few uses... maybe. |
