Editorial Reviews

Product Description
This re-issue of mid-era Saxon displays all of the fire and passion that has helped to make Saxon an all-time undisputed classic heavy metal band. Ever since their 1979 debut, the band has admirably stayed the course, dishing out album after album of pure, unadulterated metal. "Unleash The Beast" is no exception and deserves a place in every Metalhead s collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars Unleash the Beast, July 8, 2009
While I love the NWOBHM, I have never been a big saxon Fan. I tried this album after prevewing it on youtube and It is not a bad album, but it doesn't go on my favorites list either. My favorite Tracks are All Hell Breaking loose, and Thin Red Line. I'd Preview it before you bought it because it seems that some people love it, While Others Hate it. I'm kind of Between them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Album and One of Saxon's Very Best, January 12, 2009
By alaskan glam-metal-head (Fairbanks, Alaska) - See all my reviews
1997 was 20 years after the British metal band Saxon was formed, and when you you listen to their 13th album, Unleash the Beast, you can see that they weren't losing any steam. This album showcases the variety, creativity, and sheer power that have made Saxon such an excellent band.

Saxon has always been a band that knows how to create atmospheres, which is one of the key ingredients of their great sound. This talent really comes through in the title track and especially in the INTRO to the title track, "Gothic Dreams." You immidiately are transported to a creepy, mystical setting as the band continues to enhance the powerful atmosphere with Biff Byford's lyrics and the band's raw power in "Unleash the Beast."

There is great variety in the subject matter of the songs on this album. The title track is fantasy-themed, I believe "Terminal Velocity" is about sky diving, "The Thin Red Line" is about war, and "Ministry of Fools" mocks the government. The lyrics are at times vivid, menacing, inspiring, rebellious, and even uplifting, very much like the music itself.

The riffs, rhythms, and melodies created by this band on this release are mind-blowing. The compositions of the songs match their respective subject matter perfectly, and really sweep you off your feet and take you to a different place, which is one of the greatest things that heavy metal music does. The music on here will make you feel just about every emotion there is. There is intense passion in Biff's voice, in Paul Quinn's tasteful guitar solos, and in the rest of the band's playing as well.

The ballad of this album, "Absent Friends," is one of my favorite mellow metal songs of all. Even when I just hear the first couple of guitar chords strummed in that song, it just melts me. It's one of those songs that can reduce you to tears if you're in the right mood. It's just really quite stunning.

There is really not a single bad track on this album. Every song is powerful, refreshing, and creative. It's a true masterpiece. The gargoyle on the cover looks really awsome too, hehehe!
