5.0 out of 5 stars Confederate Railroad rocks the country scene!, October 9, 2001
This review is from: Unleashed (Audio CD)
They've been around a few years, and they've made you laugh, cry, and dance. The group that brought you "Trashy Women" now brings you honky-tonk men, cowboys, little children, outlaws, thieves, and rednecks.
David Allen Coe joins the boys on "Still One Outlaw Left." George Jones lends a hand on "She Treats Her Body Like A Temple." The band's keybordist, Cody McCarver, takes a turn at the mic on "Thick As Thieves." Add all that to the talent of Confederate Railroad, and you're in for a treat.
"What Brothers Do" is about a four year old talking to his new-born brother. Listen and smile as he tells all the things "big boys know." "I'm Diggin' It" is simply a fun song, and it'll get you dancing and singing along. "White Trash With Money," penned by lead singer Danny Shirley, starts the trend of humorous songs, though the trend rests at the very next track, "Wasted Time," also penned by Shirely, which tells about finding a love at last. "The 'R' Word" continues the humor, while "Borrowed Time" is simply a Railroad song. "Bewteen the Rainbows and the Rain" is a beautiful song. "Thick As Thieves", the album's last track, is appropriate for this band, as it tells--with a hint of humor--how close friends can be. if you're a dedicated Railroad fan, or a new recruit, you'll love this CD. Order it here, and "Unleash" the power of Confederate Railroad.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unexpected Depth, Thoroughly Enjoyable, December 27, 2001
By
Don Thomason (Dunbar, KY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Unleashed (Audio CD)
What is unleashed here is the overlooked perspective of the good ole boy with substance, and Confederate Railroad handles it in stride. It's clear from the first two tracks; the potentially anthematic "Still One Outlaw Left" with David Allen Coe struts boldly, then "What Brothers Do" shows a touching and rich conversation a four-year-old has with his newborn brother. There are plenty of fun tracks such as "She Treats Her Body Like a Temple" (with George Jones), "White Trash with Money," and "Thick As Thieves." But an equal highlight is the masterfully reflective "Between the Rainbows and the Rain." Lead singer Danny Shirley can evoke both the aww-we're-just-havin'-fun attitude and the quiet wisdom and soul of the rural male south of the Mason-Dixon. Don't pass this one up.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST!, October 17, 2001
This review is from: Unleashed (Audio CD)
I own every Confederate Railroad album available and Unleashed is the best! The last album on Atlantic Keep on Rockin was a disapointment, but look what a label change did for these guys. The album starts with Still one Outlaw left and sets the tone for the best country album of the year filled with fun songs like White Trash with money, and the serious Time wasted these guys show everyone else how it should be done! Not ones to hide their personalities or outlaw charm make this album even better. All fans of Toby Keith, Kid Rock, or Hank Williams Jr. should pick this one up, as should everyone else. The first single That's what Brothers do should be played on our country stations.
