About the Author
Elvin G. Miali, Police Chief - retired, has 37 years of Law Enforcement experience including 17 years as Chief Police. Chief Miali began his career in the city of San Gabriel, California. He worked his way through the ranks from Patrolman, Detective, Detective Sergeant, Lieutenant Watch Commander, Lt. in charge of Detectives and then Captain in charge of operations. During this time he was also the department polygraph examiner and was the Sergeant in charge of Internal Affairs investigations. In 1986 he was selected to be Chief of Police in Fountain Valley, CA. He has been involved in numerous promotional exams; sitting on both sides of the table as well as developing various testing programs. He has taken these experiences, good and bad and incorporated them into a positive experience. He has observed how these testing processes can cause a great amount of stress on the candidate and he knows there are many ways to reduce that stress and to better understand this process. That is why he wrote his book, "Unless You're the Lead Dog the Scenery Never Changes."
