This review is from: The Unlikely Mistress (Hardcover)

I made the mistake of reading the 3rd book (The Mistress's Child) in this trilogy first. I liked the characters and story in that book and so I decided to get the first 2 books to find out about their love stories and how everything came together.

Well, if I had read this book initially, I would've stopped it at that.

I couldn't stand the character of Guy. He reminded of too many puerile adolescent males masquerading as men.

They meet, they share a night of passion,; a misunderstanding occurs; she leaves, he follows her and invites her to stay at his flat in London...as a friend. She arranges a transfer from her job to London, organizes everything in her life for this temporary move, and when she gets to his place, he's forgotten that she was coming, is in the middle of entertaining friends, and hasn't even cleared out the guest bedroom where she's supposed to be staying. Seriously? Who does that?

Once she moved in, he wasn't very nice to her either, and considering he all but twisted her arm to get her there, and she uproots her life to be there, his behavior was just grating. And I don't mean grating in an alpha male sort of way; grating in a petulant child sort of way. His entire character was just a big turn off. I meet men like that all the time. I don't need to find them in the books I use to escape from reality.

By the end of the book, they declare their love, he tells her to remember that date. A year later he asks her if she remembers what date it is and then proposes to her.

Again, seriously? He loves this woman so much, she's already living with him and he needs to wait a year (for no apparent reason, and no reason is given) for him to propose?

Just argh. I complete waste of time.

And p.s. I'm still waiting to find out what made her an unlikely mistress. She sleeps with the guy on the first date and subsequently moves into his home. Shouldn't it be The Inevitable Mistress?

From the Back:
Unknown mistress has moved in to his luxurious London apartment...

Not wanting to return to real life, she accepts Guy's invitation to stay with him in his luxurious London apartment. On a purely platonic basis of course....

Review: The title is misleading - Sabrina is no mistress. The couple meets in Venice, shares one night and then part due to a misunderstanding. Guy tracks Sabrina down and she ends up staying with him. Although their relationship began impetuously, the two take the time to get to know one another and discover their compatibility, even if they don't realize they're doing it. I liked the interactions between them and that Guy, which struggling with his emotions, remained more real than many presents heros.
