Awesome collection of rare and remixed Barry smoothness! But, what would have made this bad boy even badder would have been if they did away with the DVD (I don't need to see the videos...and I don't imagine they'll get as much play as the music, IMO) and instead included an additional disc featuring all the B-Side instrumental versions of Barry's singles that are mentioned in the credits of each track in the liner notes.

Barry used to include instrumental versions of the A-Side vocal tracks on the B-Side with a similar name. And these tracks are exclusive to the singles, which are long out of print. Collecting those (or the best of those) on a fifth disc would have taken this set from interesting to essential.

While it is easy to dismiss Barry White as a final gasp to what some consider as the robotic sounds of the disco era - macho overboard or Mantovani on steroids, this boxed set is outstanding. It highlights the musicianship, the craft and the soul that drove Barry White as the West Coast counterpoint of Memphis' Black Moses.
The remastering and remixes really open out the soundstage and add a new dimension to the music. The previous collected works of Mr. White (Just for You, Mercury, 1992) while good do not have the impact of these 4 CDs and 1 DVD. There is a depth to the music that makes it come alive - and envelop. A must have for any soul music collection and, as one of the other reviews highlights, pass on the mp3 - the CDs are the real thing.

This box set is incredible...shows the amazing history of one of R&Bs most definitive artists...Barry White set the standard for a generations.

This is a soul music fan's dream! While there's nothing particularly wrong with single disc greatest hits collections, when you want to dig deeper into a classic artist's work and really get a full career overview, a box set is worth the investment. This one is no exception, in fact, there's quite a bit of stuff here that I had never heard and love, especially the extended versions. Three minutes doesn't always do Barry's genius justice.

Man, I was thrilled to get this box set and totally dig the packaging --- no downloads for me, gotta handle the real deal !! The DVD disc 4 is amazing, so great to have all this material in one place :) :) :)

THE LATE GREAT MAESTRO HAS THE LINE IN THE SONG CANT GET ENOUGH OF YOUR LOVE BABE.... ITS NOT ENOUGH ITS SIMPLY NOT ENOUGH. WELL THIS BOX SET IS SIMPLY NOT ENOUGH I WISH THE FIFTH CD WAS INSTRUMENTALS OF ALL THE HITS I LOVE THE ALTERNATE VERSIONS! ESPECIALLY YOUR THE FIRST THE LAST MY EVERYTHING I AND COUNTLESS OTHERS WERE RAISED UP BY BARRY I STILL WAIT FOR THE DAY THEY REISSUE SHEET MUSIC ON CD IM GLAD I HAVE THIS HAVENT GOTTEN TO WATCH THE DVD YET THIS MAN WAS SHEER GENIUS HE TOUCHES EVERY EMOTION SO SAD HES GONE BUT HIS WONDERFUL GIFT TO THE WORLD WILL LIVE FOREVER! Barry makes me believe their is a higher power who sometimes manifests themselves in humans. What a great box set, music I had not heard in many years as well as tracks I had never heard before.
Simply put Barry at his best.

Barry White enthusiasts must buy this, as it is packed with alternate takes of very famous BW songs. Not remixes, mind you, but original, alternate versions of very successful songs. Very interesting indeed.

No one expressed the art of love and intimacy in their music more than Barry White. There were very few that could touch this man in that form of music. He exemplified it in every sense of the word. For those who weren't fortunate enough to possess his individual self titled projects on lp or cd, then this would be an idea box set to add to your music collection. Plus, you get songs from other artist that he wrote and produced for who's songs were pretty tight themselves. Do yourselves a favor and go cop this one.

Barry; Love Unlimited; The Love Unlimited Orchestra; album cuts; 12-inch tracks; special remixes; rare tracks from other White-produced artists; Barry's guest appearances with other stars...all combine to make this album a welcome addition to any White fans.

White purists may complain that that alternative versions of some of his hits are not the versions that made him a star; thus, the originals should have been featured, rather than these "altered" versions.

A second "complaint" could be made by the omission of both 1994's comeback "Practice What You Preach" from 1994's "The Icon is Love" and the Grammy-award-winning "Staying Power" from White's last studio album. Surprisingly, the lesser-known "Don't Play Games" from the latter is featured.

Obviously, legal matters were responsible for the "Power's" exclusions, leading to the likelihood that something a tad more "unlimited" will be on the horizon.
