Dr. Ken Gibson's book is easy to read and offers a unique focus on solving, not just managing, the root cause of learning and reading struggles. If you're tired of coping techniques (continual tutoring, medication, behavior contracts, preferential seating, extra time for taking tests, etc.), and wonder if your child will ever live up to his/her potential, then read this TRULY AWESOME book today! Dr. Gibson's cognitive approach to strengthening key brain skills changed my "very bright" ADHD son's life! Thanks to Dr. Gibson, my son is an independent learner and student for the first time in his life. Read this book now!

This book was written by learning RX and is mostly an add, providing info you can get if you visit a store. I did visit a store and saw marketing books all over the office. While thier are some good activities in the book and at the location my trust has been broken. I am so dissapointed that this did not talk about all kinds of cognitive training but instead pretty much said "go to learning RX if you want to improve your brain"

Dr. Gibson's book addresses how to identify the causes of learning struggles, including reading difficulties, and what one can do about the problems. Most important is the fact that his logical and innovative explanations are about attacking the causes of learning problems rather than the typical quick-fix responses like how you can make accomodations for the problems.

Finally, some logical solutions to treating learning struggles that actually make sense. This book is a must read for any parent whose child has learning struggles, and a real plus for those working with these students!

The two best things I liked about this book were: 1) the summaries at the end of each chapter and 2) the quotes. I found the book to be VERY informative but written on a level that the average person could understand. It gave excellent information, examples, statistics and testimonials that encougage parents, teachers, and others to get more information about cognitive skills and training. I would HIGHLY recommend this book !!!!!

This book finally gives insight to why an individual might struggle with learning! For my family, we knew a struggle existed and others confirmed the struggle but until now there's never been a clear explanation of why there is difficulty! Dr. Gibson's book gives a clear picture of what the root cause of the problem might be and even better, ways to overcome and retrain the brain to make learning easier and more efficient! While the title of the book refers to "Applying New Brain Science to Wake Up the Smart in your Child" this book would benefit not only parents, but even adults interested in learning more about how our brains really work and improving their own skills!

Dr. Gibson's eye-opening book is a must read for those parents and professional educators who are striving to unlock a child's potential. Through Dr. Gibson's ground-breaking cognitive approach, it is possible to truly attack and overcome a child's learning weaknesses, rather than teaching the child that he/she will have to compensate for these weaknesses for the rest of his or her life.

As an educator/therapist for the past 18 years (plus the mother of a son with ADHD), I have personally witnessed the life-changing power of utilizing Dr. Gibson's approach. Believe me, this is very different from tutoring! Read the book to discover innovative ways to actually change the way your child's brain thinks and processes information. Through Gibson's cognitive approach, it is possible to see dramatic improvement in multiple areas such as: memory, processing speed, attention, reading, spelling, and self-esteem.

Thank you Dr. Gibson for finding a way to "link" the latest cutting-edge brain research into usable techniques that truly re-wire and train the brain!

Dr. Gibson introduces a new idea to the general population: your child may be smart and still not perform well in school. This is something many parents would like to believe - now they have some support. But Gibson goes beyond making parents feel better. He claims that the skills needed to do better in school can be improved. The book is written, at least in part, to promote LearningRx, a franchised cognitive improvement center, but it has additional value in that it can open the public eye to the changing face of brain research. Gibson's book presents some of this information in an easy to read and understand format. It may be one of the first steps in revolutionizing our educational system.

The book is light reading - something that will appeal to busy parents. It takes a complex subject and makes it understandable. I would recommend it to any parent whose child has come to hate school and homework.

I have spent the last 17 years of my career helping struggling students (1000s of them) as an owner/operator of a national tutoring franchise. Historically, we would help kids by brushing up on their reading and math skills. We had a good program, but it now seems like we were attacking the symptoms, not the underlying causes.

I wish I had known about this option years ago. Especially for kids who have tried other options for more than 30-60 days, and not seen the results parents were hoping for.

Each student is unique in their own way, of course. I would recommend that parents research all their options carefully, but this is one program that warrants a long look.
