4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Smartphone for Reasonable Price, May 23, 2007
This review is from: i-mate Jam Unlocked Smartphone with MP3/Video Player, SD/MMC--U.S. Version with Warranty (White) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I purchased this phone about a month ago after several weeks of research. Most reviews cited this phone as a mid-level Smartphone and at the Amazon price seemed like a good choice. Worked better than expected for the first 3 weeks, however I did have some complications with the phone hardware (the mic and ear piece died without warning) however Amazon sent me a brand new one without questions stating that the manufacturer had warned there were some defective phones sent out and that the problem was being addressed.

Having said that I am very pleased with the functions, form and feel of the phone. Having the keypad integrated into the touch screen is much more convenient in my mind that a regular keypad. Turn the screen off and you don't have to worry about making "pocket" calls. The touch screen also responds well to finger taps so you dont always have to use the stylus. It is smaller than most PDAs but still has a big screen and is a little heavier and gives the feeling of actually holding something (unlike the wispy little phones being made today).

I immediately purchased a SanDisk 2.0 Gb disk for storage, your phone will fill up fast with contacts, scheduled events, etc. I recommend removing several of the programs that come with the phone simply because you will most likely never open or use them. Comes with basic Windows mobile software like Word, Excel, Media Player and Explorer. Syncs up well with your computer and any planners/Outlook contacts you have and software instalation was a breeze

I am on a Cingular plan and have good reception just about anywhere, including areas where other cingular phones have no reception. Conecting to the internet was easy and pictures and graphics look great on the phone.

The biggest draw backs are the lack of external buttons that make it difficult to program shortcuts and the earpiece is extremely quiet. Also the camera is not as refined as you might expect for a phone like this. Well light outdoor environments are your best bet. Finally setting up folders and searching directories is rather cumbersome though not too dificult.

All in all I am very pleased. I think if you are looking to upgrade from a basic cell phone to something that can offer the features of a Blackberry or Treo this phone is a reasonable alternative if you dont want to spend $500 or $600.

It's nice and useful more than I could imagine when I bought it. The wireless function is very powerful when you are able to catch the line (in your home or in the hotel or .... free wifi ...). A lot of software are available to personalize your PDA / smart phone!
The shipment was very good and the transaction through credit card was perfect! Thanks a lot, it was really a good deal!
