Good little phone with a lot of functionality. The main issue with this phone is the complete lack of support from the company and software issues with the phone, such as speaker-phone issues, that the company is aware of.

I wanted this phone primarily to use as a PDA and to sync up with my Microsoft Outlook. If you are not an outlook user, I am not sure...

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Smartphone for Reasonable Price, May 23, 2007
This review is from: i-mate Jam Unlocked Smartphone with MP3/Video Player, SD/MMC--U.S. Version with Warranty (White) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I purchased this phone about a month ago after several weeks of research. Most reviews cited this phone as a mid-level Smartphone and at the Amazon price seemed like a good choice. Worked better than expected for the first 3 weeks, however I did have some complications with the phone hardware (the mic and ear piece died without warning) however Amazon sent me a brand new one without questions stating that the manufacturer had warned there were some defective phones sent out and that the problem was being addressed.

Having said that I am very pleased with the functions, form and feel of the phone. Having the keypad integrated into the touch screen is much more convenient in my mind that a regular keypad. Turn the screen off and you don't have to worry about making "pocket" calls. The touch screen also responds well to finger taps so you dont always have to use the stylus. It is smaller than most PDAs but still has a big screen and is a little heavier and gives the feeling of actually holding something (unlike the wispy little phones being made today).

I immediately purchased a SanDisk 2.0 Gb disk for storage, your phone will fill up fast with contacts, scheduled events, etc. I recommend removing several of the programs that come with the phone simply because you will most likely never open or use them. Comes with basic Windows mobile software like Word, Excel, Media Player and Explorer. Syncs up well with your computer and any planners/Outlook contacts you have and software instalation was a breeze

I am on a Cingular plan and have good reception just about anywhere, including areas where other cingular phones have no reception. Conecting to the internet was easy and pictures and graphics look great on the phone.

The biggest draw backs are the lack of external buttons that make it difficult to program shortcuts and the earpiece is extremely quiet. Also the camera is not as refined as you might expect for a phone like this. Well light outdoor environments are your best bet. Finally setting up folders and searching directories is rather cumbersome though not too dificult.

All in all I am very pleased. I think if you are looking to upgrade from a basic cell phone to something that can offer the features of a Blackberry or Treo this phone is a reasonable alternative if you dont want to spend $500 or $600.

It's nice and useful more than I could imagine when I bought it. The wireless function is very powerful when you are able to catch the line (in your home or in the hotel or .... free wifi ...). A lot of software are available to personalize your PDA / smart phone!
The shipment was very good and the transaction through credit card was perfect! Thanks a lot, it was really a good deal!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product, wonderful service from imate, November 3, 2006
This review is from: i-mate Jam Unlocked Smartphone with MP3/Video Player, SD/MMC--U.S. Version with Warranty (White) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
Pros:
1. the product works very good, convenient and easy to connect to my outlook calendar to keep everything in order.
2. imate service is very convenient, you can chat with experts online, it also provided free software, wonderful.
3. battery is longlasting, do not need additional one.

Cons:
1) few bluetooth earphone can connect to this cellphone
2) sometimes the alarm rings 1 or 2 hours ahead, ruin your sweet dream.
3) if you set password, and if a call comes in when the phone is locked, there is chances that your phone will not respond to any other function rather than dial. you have to reset the phone. don't worry, doing so will not damage your setting, just reboot the system.

overall, good product though there is some flaws. I like Windows Mobile.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, August 1, 2007
This review is from: i-mate Jam Unlocked Smartphone with MP3/Video Player, SD/MMC--U.S. Version with Warranty (White) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
Tow weeks so far I have it and still I can discover new things and new ways of using it as PC rather than a Phone.
I noticed that the speakers need some improvments as well as the voice quality.
One importand issue with the languages that is has MOST of them but NOT Arabic language and I wounder if it has a software to update it.
For the $$ I paid for, it is a GREAT value I got for a PC & Mobile.
I recomend it for all new PC Phone user as a simpl way to learn and as a great fetures to discover.

Good little phone with a lot of functionality. The main issue with this phone is the complete lack of support from the company and software issues with the phone, such as speaker-phone issues, that the company is aware of.

I wanted this phone primarily to use as a PDA and to sync up with my Microsoft Outlook. If you are not an outlook user, I am not sure if this is the phone for you. The phone works well and it serves the purpose that I need it for. Good price for the functionality.

Some nice features:

*Big color screen
*Very responsive touch screen
*You may pick what you want to show up on the front page, including the day's appointments.
*Multi-email account functionality. It is easy to switch between accounts and folders.
*Conference call feature
*Complete syncronization with Microsoft Outlook, including contacts, tasks, and appointments.
*Notes feature that allows you to draw on the screen and save your drawings and notes.
*In call notes feature that allows you to take notes during a call, and save those as part of the call record.
*Handwriting recognition (transcriber) feature that allows you to use the entire screen as a pad, the software then transcribes your writing into typed text.
*Easy switching between multiple data input methods including on-screen keyboard, transcriber, palm writing style and one other handwriting feature.
*Syncs up with Outlook very quickly
*Pocket word and excel
*Decent 1.3 mega pixel video camera.

Some caveats:
*The phone is extremely slippery. The brushed metal finish is much like that of the Motorola Razor, and will slip out of your hand in a heartbeat. *When making a call, it is very easy to touch the screen with your face thus putting callers on hold, or simply hanging up on them.
*The screen is also delicate, like most PDA phones.

These issues can be cleared up by purchasing a Boxwave Flexi-Skin Case i-mate JAM FlexiSkin - The Soft Low-Profile Case (With Flip Cover (no clip))and the Crystal Touch Screen Protectori-mate JAM ClearTouch Crystal Screen Protector. Those two will set you back another $45 or so put together, but if you don't get them, your phone will be scratched up or broken in no time at all.

*There is a problem with my phone and I cannot get the speaker-phone to work. I-Mate seems to be aware of this problem and does not seem to have any intention of fixing it.

* I-Mate support is spotty or non-existent. The "live chat" feature in support is disabled and also non-existent. When I look at that website, it feels like someone made it and then never looked at it again.

*The memory is tiny. I was deleting email, but not emptying out the trash box, and the phone was very sluggish. It took me a month, a hard restart, and more headaches to figure out what was wrong with it. So, you must purchase more memory.

*You must read the entire manual start to finish. Skipping this step will result in seriously reduced phone functionality.

*Pocket Skype on the phone is an older version and I can't figure out how to get the newer version loaded.

1.0 out of 5 stars Phone not working, July 7, 2007
This review is from: i-mate Jam Unlocked Smartphone with MP3/Video Player, SD/MMC--U.S. Version with Warranty (White) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
Sir/Mam,

I bought unlocked phone but it is not detecting my Airtel / Reliance simcard (In India). Is there any other interfacing software required to activate that. While purchasing, seller has assured me that it'll work in any netword since it was in unlocheked condition but it very odd feeling for me that seller lied with me.
I'll appreciate you, if you provide solution for that.
