4.0 out of 5 stars Good PDA, acceptable phone
I've replaced my Nokia 6310i with this phone. It's not much larger than the Nokia, and can do sooo much more. I use it for everything from keeping shopping lists through web browsing to GPS navigation.

As a PDA it functions great, and due to its tiny dimensions, you can have it with you all the time.

The drawback is that as a phone it is average...

the reception is very poor don't expect to get even two bar indoors. Its worse inside malls or buildings you'd be very lucky to get a bar.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good PDA, acceptable phone, November 22, 2005

I've replaced my Nokia 6310i with this phone. It's not much larger than the Nokia, and can do sooo much more. I use it for everything from keeping shopping lists through web browsing to GPS navigation.

As a PDA it functions great, and due to its tiny dimensions, you can have it with you all the time.

The drawback is that as a phone it is average at best. The speaker isn't loud enough in some cases, the microphone is a bit weak (unless you use the included headset or a BT headset) and the software (from Microsoft) is very-very basic and has a bunch of small bugs. Some of the bugs are so obvious, in fact, that I can't believe any of the developers have ever actually tested the software before shipping it.

So try the phone part before you buy and make sure you can live with the limitations. If you can, the versatility of the device will more than make up for the shortcomings as a phone.

Delivery was on time. No Delays, Phone itself was received New unopened. This is a pretty small PDA phone compared to other brand name PDA. The phone had everthing except for a built in Wifi for wireless networking. I had to spend another 100 bucks for the SD Wifi card. This phone also lacked a speaker phone when only in phone mode. I would preferred to have purchased the "I-mate Jamin" model with built in Wifi and a 2 megapixal camera.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great PDA, Functional Phone, September 30, 2006

This is a tight pocket PC device with typical smart-phone limitations. It's small, clean, yet has a large enough screen you can actually get stuff done. The screen can be set to portrait, landscape, and switched from one side to the other for lefties or righties (kind of cool).

It only appears to support the GPRS slower data connection (on GSM networks), not EDGE. The lack of a speakerphone is a tad annoying, but you'll get over it if your goal is to keep your gear compact and functional.

It ships with a stereo headset/speaker for phone calls - and it sounds kind of tinny. So, get a decent headset if you're a talker (and all of us power users are). If you want instant access to email - obviously it's not a Blackberry, but it does an OK job picking up mail via GPRS and syncs nicely with Outlook versions 2002 - 2007 (install Outlook first, then the sync software).

Getting the internet set up on T-Mobile took a bit. They are not familiar with the device in tech support and you may wait quite a while to get the details for setting up your internet services; you'll have to set it up manually. But, it's only 2 minutes of instructions once they give them to you.

Keep in mind there's no keypads and you'll have to deal with a PDA interface for all your calls. But, it's pretty functional for the price and size.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Solid Windows Mobile Phone, December 7, 2006
This review is from: i-mate Jam Unlocked Smartphone with MP3/Video Player, SD/MMC--U.S. Version with Warranty (Gray) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
Produced by HTC and branded by i-mate, the i-mate Jam makes for a very usable phone for any one acustomed to using a Windows Mobile Device. The unit get's excellent battery life and has a lot of storage ram for a device of its class (Though you will still want to add on some memory with an SD card). The unit is not much larger than a regular phone. I ran into some problems getting the unit to be recognized for syncing over USB on both Windows XP and Windows Vista. However, the bluetooth connection worked flawlessly. One night I forgot to disconnect the bluetooth connection between the phone and the computer resulting in the unit staying on without powering off all night. To my surprise while the batter was low the next morning the unit was able to remain on all night unlike other PocketPCs that I have used.

The potential drawbacks of the device are the lack of WiFi and no integrated keyboard. The lack of WiFi means that your only options for getting onto the internet while on the go are to have the service provided by your phone company. The GPRS connection used by the phone is a little faster than dial-up.

A factor that may or may not be important to some is that the phone running Windows 2003 SE; the most recent mobile OS from microsoft is Windows Mobile 5. The phone does have a battery backup just for the memory, so unlike some other 2003 S.E. devices if your battery is removed or goes dead your data will not be immediatly lost.

The best cellphone i've ever had. For around 300 dollars you can not find a phone like this in mexico so far, only blackberry and treo, which is nothing like this. The only bad thing is that it gets frozen quite often as normal computers. Overall its excellent.
