5.0 out of 5 stars This book helped me to understand the root of ASPs
This book is the greatest ASP book of all time (in my opinion). Many people have seen my copy and bought their own due to its excellent content. It is a great book for VB developers to start out with ASPs. The only negative point is that interdev 1.0 is used in the examples instead of 6.0. It is better to understand the code though.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just not enough..
This book is one of those that you buy and shelve due to lack of samples and references.. If you already know VB then this might help you. However, I find the ASP books by "Wrox" to be a better investment for my money, in addition they also have a website and a message board that provides you with ongoing support. We're not asking for the history of the Internet.. but some decent samples and explanations would be nice..The author of this book should ask himself one question..why would someone buy a computer related "How to book"..

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT Starting point., February 9, 1999

If you are a fairly experienced VB programmer you will cruise right through this book with a good overall understanding of how to port your VB knowlege to ASP. The examples in this book are very good. For just about any task, you can find an example like it, or an example that you can alter slightly in this book

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book for beginners only, December 20, 2000

I found the book useful when I started in writing ASP, however, after I got through the book, I found it lacking as a reference and choose a more detailed reference to keep on the shelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for beginners in ASP, October 7, 1998
This review is from: Unlocking Active Server Pages (Paperback)
I had to start ASP one year ago. I felt over this book in a bookstore and I never needed an other one. You have to have knowledge in programming and internet-technologies, so if you never have coded anything, forget this book. When you know how to handle Windows NT in the Internet, this book is a must.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gem in a sea of garbage, December 27, 1997

After searching fruitlessly for a good book on ASP programming, I finally came across this. It is one of the few technical books I have come across that cover a subject from its basics without insulting the intelligence of the reader. Full of examples, this is a truely informative read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very good, November 9, 1997

If you like your book on an object-oriented language to always list the main objects, methods, and properties as it progresses, this book is not for (or me, for that matter). Nor is it very clear: the diagram of the ADO object is typically awkward. I found Darren Gill and Alex Homer's "Professional Active Server Pages" to be far superior for getting me up to speed fast, fast, fast in my ASP job.

4.0 out of 5 stars ASP De-Mystified, August 21, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Unlocking Active Server Pages (Paperback)
Great starting point. The examples are good and code is often analyzed line by line. After reading it, I was ready to understand the examples that come with the ASP installation. If you don't know what ADO does yet, read Ch. 7 and you'll be able to connect and manipulate a database in a couple of hours

3.0 out of 5 stars A good starting point for page developers, August 15, 1997

Unlocking ASP is a good starting point for developers. There are literally hundreds of pages of code as well as debugging tips. The book also has a section on developing ASP components that I found quite useful. Also, there are chapters devoted to MCIS that I found useful. The only negative thing that I could say about the book is that there are a number of typographical errors, but they did not interfere with code examples. The other ASP book that I have read was "Working with Active Server Pages." I thought that Unlocking ASP was definitely better than Working with ASP
