There is no new information in this book.,

This review is from: Unlocking Alien Closets: Abductions, Mind Control, and Spirituality (Paperback)
I have become very interested in the UFO and Alien Abduction phenomena, and have been reading voraciously any material that can shed insight on this incomprehensible contact with otherly beings. This book caught my eye because of its promise to explore the military abductions which Ms Haley has experienced. I was blindsided by the five-star review, only to find a vanity project with no new information to add to the ongoing debate. The book covers the past decade of the author's life, which is a downward spiral of misfortune. The promised "abductions" are instead dreams that are billed as "virtual reality experiences". The only thing that kept me reading was the frequent references of her trips to Gulf Breeze, Florida, the UFO sighting hotbed in which I used to live. I felt bad for Ms Haley while reading this, because she obviously has suffered, first by the hand of the aliens, then by the hand of society at large. Though she seems very nice, and perfectly reasonable in her thinking, it is clear in this recounting of her personal history that she is extremely paranoid, which is par for the course for a sufferer of post-traumatic stress disorder. In fact, the only reason to read this book would be to get inside the head of a victim of this disorder, or to see what lies in store for anyone willing to go public with their alien encounters. For that, there is value; for insight into the alien agenda, there is none.

In March of 2011, Leah Haley-Ann Davenport gave an interview during which she retracted her alien abduction encounters. Since that time, with rare exception, everyone has been keeping their heads down low: WAY down low. For someone who garnered as much attention as Leah Haley did in the 1990's, retracting the past 20+ years of her life is a big deal in the world of Ufology. By her actions, Haley is taking down a lot of people with her, not the least of which is Dr. Karla Turner (now deceased) and abduction researcher John Carpenter, both of whom went beyond the call of duty to help this woman during her trials and tribulations with the "aliens". At least, that is what Haley claims in her book, for example, on page 206 where she writes, "I cannot forget the fact that John Carpenter has done much for abductees in the past"."Unlocking Alien Closets: Abductions, Mind Control and Spirituality" is important to re-examine because Haley uses the catch phrase "mind control and spirituality" in the title but when you read her book, there is next to no information regarding "mind control" and there is certainly nothing "spiritual" about her story (or her actions). The index of her book demonstrates this exceptionally well. For example, there are over 30 pages listed under the term "mind control" but not one government document is mentioned on those pages. What you will find in abundance are the author's off handed questions "...was it mind control?" and her answer "...who knows?" This book has little meaningful information contained in its 312 pages and after all is said and done the reader is left with nothing other than the ranting of a whiny and naïve woman. I couldn't agree more with the other reviewer on this page in saying "...there is nothing new in this book". BUT WAIT - MAYBE THERE IS! Since this book was published in 2003 it would seem the author had method to her madness. She calculatingly went from "alien abductee" in "Lost Was the Key" to "milabs abductee" (whatever the heck that is) and today, with her having retracted all of her ET experiences, we are left with "government mind control"....Let me rephrase that: We are left with NOTHING. Leah Haley didn't provide one citation that would help the reader understand the nature and type of alleged mind control she was and is supposedly still suffering from. When one reads this book you can't help but be taken aback by themes such as this one from page 88, "I became addicted to communicating with Greg about UFOs, abductions, spirituality....I felt good, high....after only a short time without communicating with him, I crashed to a low, depressed state and needed my quick fix again". Another from page 146 is also illuminating, "Marc seemed to meet all of the qualifications, except that he was married. In fact, he mentioned to me that he was very happily married....I could not understand why God would promote the breakup of a marriage..." God promotes the breakup of marriages? How spiritual is that? Are we serious? And what of Greg? Was he married too? On page 214 Haley admits to having failed a lie detector test about her abductions and even more disquieting is what she writes on page 220, "I was cruising at about 70 miles per hour. I started passing a car when a masculine "voice" told me to run the car I was passing off the road. A few days after that, I was home alone, cooking dinner...when the same sort of voice told me to stick my arm in the oven and burn it". There is something very unusual going on with Haley and it's doubtful it's alien abductions or mind control. It is not out of the realm of possibility that Haley is perpetrating a fraud on the folks who are honest, have an open mind and want to learn more about the UFO subject. Yes, there are some "UFO kooks" out there but for the most part UFO believers are legitimately interested in determining the truth about the unusual objects seen in our skies, not to mention the strange and terrifying figures that kidnap some of those poor souls. To add further injury to insult, Haley is continuing to sell her "pro alien" books while at the same time denying she ever saw an ET, much less got abducted by one. So, I ask: Leah Haley, have you no shame? Contact Leah Haley at the address on her Web site and ask her why she is perpetuating this lie by continuing to make a profit off of something she claims never happened. "Office" at "greenleafpublications" is a dot com site.

I read this book a couple of years ago and I was dissapointed with it. I didn't feel there was anything in the book regarding alien abductions as a whole. Now she has publicly stated that alien abductions do not happen and that she can explain away every alien abduction with human technology and mind control. You can reference these articles at The Alien Jigsaw for her statements. Save your money and buy another book that has some real information on alien abductions. She should pull all her books about alien abduction off the market. She's making money on a topic that she now says doesn't exist.

This incredible book touches all the bases: alien abductions, spirituality, military interference, the debunkers, life, love, work and relationships. Leah is an excellent story-teller and does not pull any punches about the difficulties of being an alien abductee. This is a worthy follow-up to her previous work, "Lost Was The Key," and it will educate those not familiar with the subject matter and illuminate those who are. Leah is not afraid to describe the ups, and many downs that her life has taken her. There are some difficult parts to read, being that she was harassed from all sides: fellow workers, military and government agents, extraterrestrials and even so-called friends. But her resolve to lead her life with courage and ambition makes this book an inspiration and joyous affair. I have read and reviewed many books on abductions since 1966's "Interrupted Journey" by J. G. Fuller, and this ranks at the very top with the best of Budd Hopkins, David Jacobs, Expect a roller-coaster ride when reading this, but the thrills will be worth it, I guarantee it!

Unlocking Alien Closets,
By Brent Raynes (Waynesboro, Tennessee) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Unlocking Alien Closets: Abductions, Mind Control, and Spirituality (Paperback)
Leah Haley not only describes alien encounters, abductions, and "missing time," she also relates how apparent military harassment, mind control and surveillance were a significant part of her experiences as well, including numerous appearances of the infamous black, unmarked helicopters. An accountant, wife, and mother, her normal, everday life suddenly took a very mysterious and unexpected detour in 1990, at the age of 39. It was a traumatic chain of events, as well as apparent repressed memories of two previous UFO experiences surfacing, that threw her personal world into major upheaval. She initially thought she was going insane. Even after a psychologist, a psychiatrist, and a psychiatric social worker had all told her that she wasn't insane, she still wasn't fully convinced. Not at first. Learning that others around the world had described such experiences swayed her a little, but she writes that it was the military aspect that kept cropping up in her situation that made her finally realize that they wouldn't be wasting their time and money on someone simply suffering mental illness. But because she spoke out publicly about her experiences, she soon suffered the social consequences, and as a result lost her job and husband. Her ordinary world was turned inside out and upside down. The normal barriers and definitions no longer seemed adequate. Looking inward she prayed a lot and developed a spiritual lifeline that helped her through her traumatic ordeals. She entered into apparent telepathic contact with a mysterious presence she came to refer to as the "Silent Voice," although she wasn't sure she could trust it. She often wasn't sure just who she could trust. She discovered new things about herself and reality that no church or educational institution had prepared her for. Gradually and painfully, she became stronger and more evolved spiritually. She was drawn eventually into a relationship with ufologist Marc Davenport under some rather mysterious circumstances. The two of them developed a telepathic bond and became a determined team, with a mission to get the truth out about the UFOs and the abduction phenomenon. This book provides a detailed and personal look into Leah's unusual and often traumatic experiences, and into her and Marc's struggles to bring the truth about UFOs out into the open and to the public.

This review is from: Unlocking Alien Closets: Abductions, Mind Control, and Spirituality (Paperback)
Unlocking Alien Closets: Abductions, Mind Control, And Spirituality is the personal testimony of an alien abductee. Author Lea A. Haley was a CPA living a normal life as an accounting instructor, wife, and mother, when the intrusion of alien life altered her perception forever. In Unlocking Alien Closets, Lea seeks to understand and connect aliens, UFOs, mind control and government coverups to God, the Bible, and human spirituality in this engrossing narrative of metaphysical thought and extraterrestrial contact. Unlocking Alien Closets is thoughtful and thought-provoking reading which is especially commended to the attention of UFO enthusiasts.

This author is a real person. I have read some so called UFO books written by so-called normal people and they sound like they were written by professional writers, with a degree in English or something, rather than by a regular person. She wrote the book like it was a journal which is something I like. The author was being subjected to a lot of deception through different forces. She couldn't tell the difference between the two. It made me appreciate a book I've read by Marshall Vian Summers which is supposed to help you meditate and learn to differentiate between deception and truth when dealing with aliens. The author also writes these things and you can tell she doesn't know the validity of the things she is being told from these beings. She does bring up the usefulness of the Bible, illustrating that the stories have a greater meaning. I think the book is good, most of the things she says you can't take seriously because the source of it may be screen memories or even dreams. I still think the book is good because of the connection it draws between, UFO's and the bible.

Hard to assess,
By April Seventeen "Intercession" (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Unlocking Alien Closets: Abductions, Mind Control, and Spirituality (Paperback)
The difficulty here is that no evidence is presented to sustain the veracity of these accounts. This does not mean that they cannot be true but also means that they may be the product of a neurotic imagination. After reading John Mack, Fowler, Hopkins, Jacob, on the phenomenon of abductions it is absurd to reject the reality of these experiences. The probability that these episodes are borrowed from other accounts is also very real.
Military conducted abductions for the "alleged" purpose of scientific studies are unfortunately reported by others as well, although it is hard for me to see how the military would know that Leah had been abducted by real aliens? The book provides some insight in the troubled world of a government caught in a nightmare of disinformation, even if the author did not experience what she recounts herself. I did not order this book. I had ordered "Need to Know" by Timothy Good and received this one instead. Timothy Good deals with facts that are very disturbing to learn but here they are. The advantage with Leah is that you can reject the whole story and lost nothing. |
