Book Description

March 1997
Do seven powerful people rule the world? Control all of our actions? Someone thinks so, and is systematically sending bombs to kill each of these seven wealthy and influential men. Three are dead already by the time mega-priced, contingency private investigator Gil Yates arrives on the scene.

Yates is hired by media mogul Harold Mattlock, one of the unlucky seven who becomes next on the hit list. The P.I. solicits the help of Wiggy, a stunning expert on the conspiracy of seven theory, to help find the killer. They barnstorm to Washington, D.C., New York City, San Jose and San Francisco, uncovering bizarre truths about the victims, the survivors, their giant corporations and associates.

Are they quick enough to save the remaining targets? Gil and Wiggy bring it all together in a heart-stopping finish that will have all Gil Yates enthusiasts cheering for more.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Billionaire Harold Mattlock hires elusive p.i. Gil Yates (The Con, Knoll Pubs., 1996) to find the psychotic bomber who has targeted seven powerful men?himself included?for destruction. Mattlock's influence brings Gil FBI assistance, appointments with the other potential victims, and first-class accommodations all the way. Gil even falls in with a gorgeous, affectionate woman who shares her copious research into American terrorist organizations. As in the previous Gil Yates adventures, the plot capitalizes on his eccentric behavior, naively humorous predicaments, and lucky breaks. A good choice for all collections.

From Booklist

Boyle has hit his stride with this latest Gil Yates novel. In a Nutty Professorlike transformation (without chemicals), humdrum realtor Malvin Stark regularly morphs himself into the supercool Yates, a high-priced private eye who solves the most demanding cases and lands the most gorgeous women. His latest caper involves a wacko who has decided to kill the seven people he believes control the world. Two have already fallen, and the next on the list, a powerful publishing mogul, hires Yates to make sure he's not the next to drop. Yates becomes obsessed with the case; to find out how "those crazy people" think, he sits in on meeting after meeting with conspiracy theorists and their ilk. In the process, he falls for a beautiful, wealthy woman who has been researching such psychos for years--but what's her agenda? Trying to answer that question drives this satisfying thriller, which is sustained by a refreshingly quirky tone and an offbeat style. Mary Frances Wilkens

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite of all the Gil Yates series., April 16, 1999

This review is from: The Unlucky Seven: A Gil Yates Private Investigator Novel (Hardcover)
P.I. Gil Yates is a real kick. The mad-Bomber story line moves along quickly and keeps your interest. Gil is lighthearted and humerous. His sidekick/love interest in this case keeps Gil guessing. And the plot is an interesting one: someone thinks 7 people rule the world and wants them all dead. I recommend to anyone who likes the detective genre.
