If you find loneliness erotic, this book is for you., October 12, 2009
This review is from: Unmade Bed (Paperback)
Although I thoroughly enjoy a wide variety of erotica, from vanilla extract to thoroughly spiced with kink, I've not run across a single story in 'The Unmade Bed' that's even remotely titillating. The editor appears to have selected stories characterized by a pervading air of loneliness, unfulfilled longings, poor communication, and just plain confusion.
The first story is of a woman and her boyfriend who engage a friend of the boyfriend's for a threesome. While the woman and the friend are getting it on, the boyfriend leaves. That is the end of the story. Can anybody tell me how that is erotic? It sounds like a recipe for a breakup.
Other episodes include a man whose cat turns into a woman - he has sex with the woman, she turns back into a cat and runs away, leaving him in a pit of despair. There is a man whose telephone dominatrix turns out to be a wrong number, a gay guy whose boyfriend is a jerk - the story is about him masturbating in the boyfriend's apartment and then walking out on him - a love affair between bodybuilders which ends when one leaves the other for someone more tiny and delicate...the list goes on and on.
So if loneliness, fights, breakups and heartache turn you on, by all means, buy this book. Otherwise try to find an anthology that includes love, committment, friendship, sponteneity, closeness, laughter, fierceness, and fun...all the things that make up TRUE erotic reading.
