5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD for the real fans
This cd is great for all of you that still don't cry and whine about all the stuff they've done. I admit i didn't like the St. Anger album at first but after a while it grows on you. The Unnamed Feeling is probably my favorite track on the album and having the live songs is a bonus. Not many times you can hear some of the old songs live damage inc., and leper messiah...

3.0 out of 5 stars great songs played sloppily
I have to disagree that "Unnamed Feeling" is the best track on St Anger. I much more prefer the title track or Purify... because of that, the extras on this cd are the real reason to buy it. All the live songs are hard hitting, popular, classic Metallica. The recording are top notch for live although some of the instruments in a few of the songs are too distant...

I listen to all their material and appreciate change because if they didnt change half of you would be whining cause they sound the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth it for the Ride the Lightning Live Track Alone, April 5, 2004

If you have St. Anger, you know Unnamed Feeling, which is probably the strongest track off the album. The reason to get this EP is for the live tracks, namely Ride the Lightning, where James forgets the words and starts singing jibberish and openly admits his mistakes. It is funny. He kinda muddles the lyrics on almost every song, but none are as humorous as that one. Worth the price of the CD in itself.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Decent Single With Great Live performances, February 15, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Unnamed Feeling (Audio CD)
First of all, If for nothing else, buy this cd for the live songs - they rock. As for "The Unnamed Feeling" itself, it's a decent song - Definately better than anything on St. Anger, but still does not live up to their older stuff. Yes, the sound quality is a lot better than that of "Frantic" or "St. Anger" and Hetfeild obviously put some effort in making the vocals sound good, and i think the guitar intro could actually be considered a riff... But still no solos or complex licks that made Metallica famous, and the style in which the song is written gives of a slight odor of nu metal. I think Metallica is trying to go back to the raw, heavy style that we all love, and this song has its moments. Yet the fact remains that Kirk Hammet hasn't given us a single guitar solo since "Reload," and this song would be so much better with more riffs and a 2-minute-long solo. But all in all, nice job Metallica.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, Great Value!, February 11, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Unnamed Feeling (Audio CD)
This is the first Metallica single I've ever purchased and I can easily say that it is welcome in my Metallica collection. The sound quality is incredible all the way through and the live tracks demonstrate just how incredible and powerful Metallica is live. I have bootlegs from all the tours throughout the years and this is the best Metallica has sounded in well over a decade. They sound inspired again and are putting forth the effort required to really make these songs "work" live. The new song, The Unnamed Feeling, really makes me regret that I sold my copy of St. Anger. Sure the album is not up to Metallica standards but this song is a gem and a future Metallica classic. I think I'll pick up St. Anger again to make sure I didnt miss any other hidden gems like The Unnamed Feeling. Dont hesitate to add this to your collection and make sure you get it before it goes out of print.

Finally a single with a good deal of live songs on it. The song choices are great considering that they chose a few different rare live tunes to throw at you. Damage Inc and Leper Messiah are the highlights. Ride the lightning is good...but could we have a single where the lyrics arent screwed up mid song? I would like to see another single release like this one with more songs from the 03 tour...perhaps fight fire with fire, and some of the new songs live! If you buy the singles..this one is a must have the songs are great. To trade live shows email me at eternalnight@msn.com...I only trade concerts no buying or selling.

All the live songs are hard hitting, popular, classic Metallica. The recording are top notch for live although some of the instruments in a few of the songs are too distant. My main complaint is that the timing of the songs are off. The tempo changes in Leper Messiah and Damage Inc are muddled. The riffs in horsemen and hit the lights are off beat, and lars plays a few of the sons with the new st anger drum set. I like the cd but only as an addition to the real recordings. If I had found this on the street I would have thought this was a cover band.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unnamed Feeling EP, March 5, 2011
This review is from: Unnamed Feeling (Audio CD)
This is a great EP. It has some excellent live versions of songs from the bands first 3 albums, with the band playing them in a more mature, polished way, and with James giving it all on the mike as always. It's great to hear Robert on the bass as well, a seriously underrated player, even in this band. It's especially funny to hear James forget the lyrics half way through 'Ride the Lightning' and make a joke of it and carry on. Great metal from when the band were at their peak.

Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Debatable quality, I love it., April 30, 2006
This review is from: Unnamed Feeling (Audio CD)
I'll put this out there right away: This is exactly the same thing as the Some Kind of Monster CD except each have a different title track (SKOM vs Unnamed Feeling). Well, I think it's agreed The Unnamed Feeling was the best track off of St. Anger, so I went for this album rather than SKOM.

The live tracks. Hilarious at times, especially Ride the Lightning. Leper Messiah is the best one, but The Four Horsemen, Hit the Lights, and Damage Inc are all strong too. James doesn't sound the greatest, but he does sound better than on St. Anger. I'll leave it at that before I get too repetitive with other reviews.

Awesome title track, comical vocals, and great Kill Em All live performances.

4.0 out of 5 stars Oh Man, this is a riot!, March 8, 2006
By
Ren Hoek (Sherrard, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Unnamed Feeling (Audio CD)
I purchased this release for the reason that I think most people did, the extra live tracks, which feature some classic Metallica songs, and because I wanted to hear the band with Rob as the bassist. Skip over the first track, it is nothing special and head for the live tracks. Interestingly, these tracks were recorded at three different gigs in France, which all occured on the same day in what turned out to be the hottest day recorded in French history. The live tracks for the most part, are recorded pretty well for being live, but are a slop fest. Sometimes certain instruments overpower others, but hey its live what do you expect? James' voice has improved since St. Anger but is still pretty bad. Of course Lars is totally sloppy. Maybe they were tired and hot, which would explain a lot. One part of "Ride The Lightning" James forgets his own lyrics and utters "I forgot the F*** words" and suprisingly it doesn't sound bad because its all at the same pitch and what not as actual lyrics are suppose to be at. I didn't catch at first, my friend pointed it out to me and when I cought it for the first time I laughed so hard. Overall, a bunch of decent live recordings. Recommended to any true Metallica fan, just don't waste your time with the first track.
