4.0 out of 5 stars industrial soundscapes, August 15, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Unnatural History 1 (Audio CD)
The album's good, a mix of early Coil work, but hard to listen to in one sitting since the album as a compilation has no continuity. Though great stuff, I'd recommend buying a real album such as one of the Musics to Play in the Dark or Horse Rotorvator (which has a similar sound to this stuff).

My main reason for writing this review, however, is to make clear than Unnatural History IS NOT Horse Rotorvator with different song titles. I don't know where the previous reviewer heard this, but it's not true.

5.0 out of 5 stars How to Destroy Angels, October 20, 2004

While this serves as a good "odds and ends" compilation of Coil, or a decent introduction to them, I will say that the track "How to Destroy Angels" is one of the most disturbing tracks I have ever heard. Nightmarish samples disorient the listener into a netherworld of the bizzare and morbid. Any Coil is recommended by yours truly, if only they would rerelease these Stateside to avoid the terrible import prices.

4.0 out of 5 stars Coil's best, August 5, 2006

This will serve as an excellent introduction to Coil. unfortunately afterwards also most their albums will seem unsatisfying since Coil love sometimes to take their experiments a bit far. However this collection really does not bore and presents soem of thier more ineteresting stuff. Not as extreme as some think. Quite ebautiful in parts.

4.0 out of 5 stars Compilation tracks compiled, January 18, 2000
This review is from: Unnatural History 1 (Audio CD)
Subtitled "Compilation tracks compiled" this record is exactly that, tracks that have appeared on various compilation records and cassettes, collected here on the one album. As such the album doesn't have the continutiy or overall concept that many coil albums do. The tracks themselves are a strange mix, from the demented animal squeals on Pope held upside down to the Nazi death march imagery of Her body was a playground for the Nazi elite; this certainly isn't a record for everyone. And with a hefty price tag perhaps not the best introduction to Coil's music. Still well worth a listen.

4.0 out of 5 stars First Coil CD..., September 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Unnatural History 1 (Audio CD)
This is my first plunge into the musical world of Coil, and I have to say I'm surprisingly pleased. If you're into 'experimental electronics' at all, Coil is one project to take a look at.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Oddity, March 13, 2000
This review is from: Unnatural History 1 (Audio CD)
This compelation of hard to find single by Coil reminds you of the rough and improvisational sound of "Scatology" mixed with the quirkiness of "Gold is the Metal". The tracks are very strange no other word for them. Brutal pulsing sounds, and even though it is a collection of tracks it has the most cohesive album feel of all the UnNatural History albums, this may be due to the fact that they represent almost exclusively the early years of Coil. To a new Coil collector this CD is required as the original versions of the majority of the tracks are impossible to find.

5.0 out of 5 stars breath the Coil, March 20, 2000
This review is from: Unnatural History 1 (Audio CD)
Coil is Great. A band completly unpopular, who make music only for the pleasure. Coil is pure, clean and serious. This single colection is a good chance to know Coil and his Work. This music is like a Angel talking like a Demon. beautfull.
