I just recently started listening to Flotsam and Jetsam. I love their old stuff but I really like this CD the best. This album is definatly underated.

2.0 out of 5 stars Worst Flots album yet...
Wow. I can't believe how disappointed I was to finally hear this record. The new drummer isn't bad, but the band and new guitarist were trying for something a little TOO different, and didn't succeed. I miss songs like "I Live, You Die", "Blindside" and "Monster". Bring back the heavy groove, guys.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm not a F&J fan, but I like this album, January 5, 2003

I suppose this would be like a non-metallica fan saying that the new Reload cd is brilliant, so keep in mind I'm not trying to come off like that. I like this cd ok, it's not a favorite, but it's got some cool stuff. My favorite on the cd is Welcome To The Bottom. It's got a good blend of acoustic and electric guitars, setting the mood for the song quite well. I wish there was more of this on this particular cd. There's a funny song on here called F**kers, too. They have some cool heavy guitar riffs on here, and the drums sound the way Vinnie Paul's do in my car stereo - not the drummers, just the mixing. I suggest downloading a few songs to sample the cd, you may or may not like it. But if you do like it, help support us musicians, and buy the cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is good stuff, March 12, 1999

Easily their best since No Place For Disgrace, these songs are HEAVY. It starts like thunder with tune called Dream Scape, and keeps you hypnotised until the last sounds.

This album reaches the height of Flotsam and Jetsam's career. It it a well thought out album with many highlights. The best songs on the album is "Falling" and "Chemical Noose". Overall, this album rules.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unnaturally Underrated, December 24, 2010

Are you kidding me?

I am looking at a batch of overly mediocre reviews for this record. As a long-time metalhead and a real Flotsam fan, I have to say I don't get it. This is staple metal music no metalhead should continue on without having in their library of metal. No, it's not really ground-breaking. But that's really the point. Flotsam & Jetsam remain like an out-of-place artifact in the timestream of modern music, continuing to make straight-up 80's-style heavy metal (not glam, not speed, not rock) with no apologies, and this record is a perfect example. If after several listens several of these songs don't become infused into your metal consciousness like early Metallica has (and like most Metallica post-Lightning cannot), like early Megadeth has (and like most Megadeth post So Far cannot), like songs from Flotsam's masterpiece Drift have, then there is something wrong. You have been mentally altered so as to no longer recognize great metal and you need to have your head examined. There, I said it.

All that said, it did take me several listens to get to this point of absolute surety that this record is as great as I just made it out to be. And, again I reiterate, it is not ground-breaking material. It is just really, really, metal and really, really, good metal at that, and even better, it is really good Flotsam. Drift still wins, but the world is better for Unnatural Selection being in it, and you need to ignore all the naysayers on here and just pony up the duckets and own this thing.

Seriously. What the &!*@, people?

1.0 out of 5 stars Another average flotsam album, May 30, 2010
This review is from: Unnatural Selection (Audio CD)
This is another 90's below average metal album from jetsam. This band has never produced anything stellar with or without the hack newsted. Maybe he will rejoin Flot now that metallica has a far better bassist.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worst Flotsam & Jetsam album ever.....but it is still worth a listen, December 19, 2006
This review is from: Unnatural Selection (Audio CD)
After two member changes and somewhat of a let down album('High') F&J release 'Unnatural Selection'. The best word to describe this album would be mediocre. With a new drummer and guitarist on board (who truly don't do a bad job) the album seems unfocused and boring at times. The arrangements are lacking and some of the pieces just don't fit. If you are expecting some masterpiece the guys are far from it. But there is certainly some good songs. Probably the best on the album that could remind fans of there earlier work would be the song 'Promise Keepers' a well put together song. Then there is 'F**kers' which has an interesting feel to it and 'Brain Dead' which I also enjoy. The rest just seem a bit generic and uninteresting. With that being said fans should leave this for last. And after owning there whole catalog this is by far there worst album but is still worth a listen or two.

3.0 out of 5 stars A noble effort..., May 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Unnatural Selection (Audio CD)
It saddens me to think of all the "late 80's early 90's" speed metal/thrash bands I've watched destroy themselves in feeble attempts at captureing that "late 90's grove/alternitive sound" The interesting thing about this album is that they almost succeed in pulling it off...ALMOST. The biggest change is probably the new drummer. (Who does a not to bad job of giveing some of the songs that new kinda music feel) But the new guitarist is totally lost, and the old sorely missed..let's face it, like James and Kirk of Metallica, some guys just belong jamming together. And without each other they just aren't quite the same. With tracks such as "Dream Scrape", "Promise keepers", "Brain Dead" & "Way to Go" You really get an idea of just how good this record could have been..But tracks like "Falling" & "F**CKERS" just kill it..and is it just me or do "Chemical Noose" & "Liquid Noose" not sound almost identical musicly? not to mention being about almost identical subject matter..this should have been just one song! Talk about album fill..come on guys! But there is something about this album..(after you get over the initial disapointment) that just keeps you putting it back in that random cd mix night after night. Nice try Flotsam, but stick with youre roots and you'll go farther.
