5.0 out of 5 stars Gilligan's Island deconstruction, February 5, 2000
This review is from: The Unofficial Gilligan's Island Handbook (Paperback)
I bought this book when it was first published because Gilligan's Island is my all time favorite wacky sit-com. Its wackiness has always inspired questions and debates about the nature of reality on the deserted island such as the reasons for each castaway being on the 3-hour tour or why the Howells brought all those clothes. This book takes a stab at answering many of those questions in an irreverent yet respectful manner as well as providing things that are expected in books about TV shows (episode guides, behind the scenes information, cast biographies). I own almost every book published on Gilligan's Island, this book has remained my favorite

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Guide for Those Who Love the Little Buddy...and the rest, July 23, 2010
This review is from: The Unofficial Gilligan's Island Handbook (Paperback)
I bought this book years ago at a thrift store, Best 10 cents I ever spent. I read it on and off throughout the years but the best part came when I got the DVDs. It is a great compliment to the series and if you're looking to find a favorite episode or what was invented, then this is the best book out there for Gilligan's Island. I went through and marked my favorites so watching them first was easy. It's packed with all sorts of information about the cast, the characters, the Professor's inventions, and even a trivia question for each episode. There's also entries on the different elements and messages associated with the show that helped me make more sense of what I was watching (it's not just another pointless TV show.) I couldn't imagine watching the show or the movies without this book by my side.
