But before people can begin to manage time and gain control of their lives, they need to understand why they got out of control in the first place. The Unofficial Guide to Managing Time covers every aspect of life -- not just the nine-to-five grind -- with inside tips on setting priorities and goals, scheduling that works (without wasting additional time!), organizing, delegating, and initiating rather than reacting in personal, business, creative, academic, and family spheres.

More About the Author

When I was eleven years old, I wrote my first published piece: an essay on the Cuban Missile Crisis. That was all I needed--one byline, and I was hooked. A writer for life! Since then, my pen/computer has spewed forth a great number of written works ranging from newspaper articles to novels, poetry to children's books, memoirs to fantasies.

I write under several names: Dawn Reno, Dawn E. Reno, Dawn Elaine Reno, Dawn Reno Langley, and Diana Lord. Please search for me under each of these names!

Writing is not my only love, however. I have taught and been a college administrator for many years, and nothing fills my heart more completely than to see a student find success in one of my classes (or in a class my faculty teach).

I also love travelling, and I attempt to visit a new country at least once a year. Next on my list: anywhere in Africa. Gardening fills up other hours, and whether it's a new piece of land that needs to be tilled or a hanging basket that simply needs watering, if it's green, I want to nourish it.

I try to keep a blog on goodreads dot com, or on my MySpace page (jazzydawn), or my Facebook page. Visit me there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent business info!, April 8, 2000

This review is from: The Unofficial Guide to Managing Time (Paperback)
I'm married and work almost 60 hours a week. It's been insane to try to get more things done, but reading this book helped me put things in perspective. I got great tips on organizing my office, learning how to stop interruptions, and dealing with the electronic pauses in my day. I highly recommend it. You don't have to have children to feel stressed, and though I was surprised at the other comments, I feel that the book was quite valuable to me. Maybe people with kids should look for something more specific to the home?

I'm a magazine publisher, a freelance writer, columnist, writer of thrillers, mother of five and grandmother of ten. I have my own business and I help my husband run his. You get the idea. There is always way too much on my plate. In fact, I can't see the plate. I say that I wish I could find time in a bottle. I'd buy cases. Alas, it's not going to happen. But, when a friend turned me on to this book on Time Management I decided it was TIME. I confess to reading it piecemeal--waiting in long lines while driving, waiting in the doctors office, even while soaking in the bathtub. It's hard to find TIME! As with many things there is much about managing our time that we already know--we just don't DO what we know. I found this book to be an inspiration. It gives a new slant to an old problem. Can you really better manage your time by TAKING more time for yourself? Well, since reading this book, it's working for me. If you're looking for a miracle to save you, then say your prayers, (another good idea) but if you want inspiration and a plan to help you attack this problem, Reno has found the plan and this book is inspiring in its straight forward, common sense, yet eloquent style. I'd like to thank the author for helping me find the way to the break I deserve.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally some real help!, March 25, 2000
This review is from: The Unofficial Guide to Managing Time (Paperback)
Between juggling the schedules and workloads of twelve student employees, keeping my two kids on track, and managing a state-of-the-art computer lab, thinking about time management is the last thing I have time to do, but probably one of the most important. Ms. Reno's "Unofficial Guide" presented me with some quick and easy tips to cut down on the amount of time I've been spending on unimportant things, and has helped me set aside some of those precious minutes for the little enjoyments of life--like reading more books!
