The inside scoop...for when you want more than the official line!

Microsoft Access 2007 may be a major new update, but to use it with confidence, you'll need to know its quirks and shortcuts. Find out what the manual doesn't always tell you in this insider's guide to using Access 2007 in the real world. What's the best way to use the new features? What are "intelligent" forms? From setting up tables to encrypting databases, first get the official way, then the best way from an expert.

  • Unbiased coverage of how to get the most out of Access, from using the Quick Launch Toolbar and Office Button to building a database from scratch
  • Savvy, real-world advice on everything from using form views, PivotTables, and PivotCharts to writing questions in the form of a query
  • Time-saving techniques and practical guidance on creating smart macros, collaborating with others using SharePoint(r), and adding pizzazz to reports
  • Tips and hacks that help you work around Access quirks, avoid pitfalls, and increase your productivity
  • Sidebars and tables on sorting rules for special characters, predefined sizes for number data types, and more

This review is from: The Unofficial Guide to Microsoft Office Access 2007 (Paperback)
Have you looked for a good overall reference for Microsoft Access 2007? Yes, I did too. Virtually every book review on them states something such as "it's good, BUT...." and then proceeds to tell all the shortcomings. And, probably like you, I bought several that had some information, but not what I was hoping for. Well, with this book, I hit pay dirt. This book is modestly priced, virtually unknown, no fancy color graphics, but the book delivers! Look at the table of contents and you'll be impressed. I had basic awareness of Access and could build simple databases, but there was always a question on something that I couldn't do... and I had given up on many books... but this book gives good advice, some of it regarding Access, and some on just good common design techniques.

For me, this isn't a book to sit and read. Instead, it's a book to use with its extensive index and its 18 page table of contents. (Yes, the table of contents is 18 pages long.) If you have to see pictures to learn, this book isn't for you, but if you need to see basic views and can follow good documentation, I think you will like this; I certainly did/do.
