A Look Inside the The Unofficial Harry Potter Sweet Shoppe Kit

Review

"For American fans of the books, it's great to get more details about various classic English fare. Little side bars in the books outline some interesting concepts...and the recipe for Petunia's pudding that Dobby smashed sounds delicious." --CastlesandCooks.com

"We may be mere Muggles, but that doesn't mean we can't partake in some magical culinary delicacies! Relive your favorite Harry Potter memories while noshing on grub inspired by boy wizard's adventures." - E! Online

More About the Author

Dinah Bucholz is the official author of The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook. Dinah was born to a large family and grew up in a small New York City suburb called Monsey.

Dinah's first experience with baking occurred when she received for her ninth birthday a toy mixer from her mom that actually worked. She mixed up a chocolate cake batter without following a recipe and then poured the brown glop into plastic bowls and set them in the oven. Thankfully, she forgot to turn the oven on.

Today, Dinah lives in Philadelphia with her husband, five children, and a cat. She spends her time cooking and writing and wearing a professional-looking white chef's apron when she remembers to put it on.

The most interesting thing about this item is the box.
Jaye
The box made it appear there would be much more, but instead it was a plastic mold, some chocolate brooms and chips, plastic bags and ties and a recipe book.

The packaging was excellent but once i opened the box I was disappointed.

This product came in handy for a Harry Potter party that I threw celebrating the last release of the Harry Potter movies (DH part 2) It came with a small paperback cookbook that had new recipes for sweet Harry Potter treat. It also came with some molds and other small items to help decorate what you made. In the recipe book there was some repeated recipes from the first cookbook that the author came out with. However I thought that it gave me great new recipes and expanded my Harry Potter knowledge in the food area. So I recommend it highly to those nerds out there that are sick of Muggle food and want to try something a bit more magical.

Be aware, the only thing this is, is a big "Harry Potter Sweet Shoppe" box, inside is a little itty bitty receipe book, some small cellophane bags and twist ties, and a flimsy plastic mold that you can use to make candy. Pretty dissapointing.

The box made it appear there would be much more, but instead it was a plastic mold, some chocolate brooms and chips, plastic bags and ties and a recipe book. This all could have easily fit in a box 1/3 the size.

Great Marketing, dissapointing product.

I felt that the description of the item overplayed what the item consisted of.. Similar candy mold and accessories would cost under $10in a craft store. i already had the recipes. The packaging was excellent but once i opened the box I was disappointed.

I bought this item towards the end of the summer, and I have to say the recipes are GREAT! I would also highly recommend purchasing the unofficial Harry Potter cookbook if you're looking for more than just sweet recipes. The broomsticks and chocolate molding kit are fun if you want to make something quick and easy for your kids or parties!

My daughter got this kit for Christmas and we all were surprised when she opened the the nice box to find a candy mold, some plastic bags and a very small paperback cookbook with mostly ice cream recipes inside. We don't have an ice cream maker (which is required for the ice cream recipes) so it is not much use or fun at all really. What a sham! This could have been so much more creative and fun. No wonder they used such a nice box to hide it all in. If we really knew the contents before shelling out our money to buy it, we would have seriously passed. Expensive box. FAIL.

I was very excited to receive this as a Christmas gift. It looks quite impressive and nice with the big, well-decorated box. You open the box and the actual product can't even live up to the box. There is a tiny recipe book (which if you already own the Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook, many of the recipes are the same), a handful of plastic bags and ties that you could buy at the dollar store, a handful of broomstick sticks, and a tiny little tray that has hardly any spaces. I would be happy if maybe there was an individual tray for each mold, but alas, no. If I want to make broomstick suckers, I would have to make them two at a time. Not worth spending the money on, and if it wasn't a gift, I would have returned it.

The most interesting thing about this item is the box. It's very sturdy, but contains very little. Stating that the kit "provides everything you need" to make all the sweets listed on the box is really false advertising.
