Book Description

May 15, 1992
"One of the most terrifying real-life horror stories you'll ever read."--Hartford Courant Syndication

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

In 1986, during a bitter divorce case with his second wife, the mother of his two children, McQueeney was accused of having molested his four-year-old son. His wife had grown up in a broken home; after the divorce she married a law officer who brainwashed the children to hate their biological father and to lie about him. Added to the mix was a social worker who claimed to have investigated some 100 child abuse cases and never found a child to be untruthful. After a two-and-a-half-year ordeal, McQueeney was found not guilty, and in 1991 he was granted joint custody of his children, Keefe and Wendy. Vacon, who covered the story for the Hartford (Conn.) Courant, was killed in an auto accident in 1990; his widow and ex-colleagues completed this excellent account.

From Library Journal

Having suddenly and unexpectedly filed for divorce, Robert McQueeney's wife falsely accused him of sexually abusing their son. This book is the story of the resulting agony of McQueeney, his children, parents, and friends, and also of his ultimate vindication. The story is disturbing and even frightening, but deserves to be heard. It should interest various professionals as well as the general reader. Theologians, philosophers, mental health professionals, and those employed in the criminal justice system will appreciate the insights which can be gleaned from this account. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A realistic account of the tragedy of false abuse allegation, December 29, 2000

This account is very real and true to life. I know because I have lived through an almost the exact same case as Mr. McQueeney. If you are a father, you owe it to your child to read this book. It accurately accounts what can happen to you if an ex-spouse decides to use against you what has become known as the "nuclear weapon of the custody battle."

Read this book to know what can happen to you. Be prepared so you won't be blindsided. The same thing that happened to Mr. McQueeney happened to me. Knowing the way these cases work ahead of time would have saved me tens of thousands of dollars and spared my son the agony of his mother's abuse.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good/sad book - left ?'s, February 8, 2004

True to life experience. I really felt for Rob and his family. My only disappointment was that the book left open ended questions. Vikki left the state with the kids - did he ever see them again. Has he rebuilt his realtionship with them? His dedication stated that he hopes a copy of the book makes it into thier hands. That makes me think that he has not seen them. The book was printed one year after he was awarded joint custody - if he has not seen the kids why leave the book with a happy ending (joint custody). Having the court declare that you have a right to thid kids doesn't mean anything if you haven't seen them. They are adults now. I'm very curious as to how the relationships turned out.
