A photogenic family band comprising three sisters and one brother, the Corrs -- vocalist Andrea, drummer Caroline, violinist Sharon and guitarist/keyboard player Jim -- blend the music of their Irish background with contemporary pop/rock elements. The quartet formed in 1991 and enjoyed regional popularity in Ireland until 1994, when the American ambassador to the country… Read more in Amazon's The Corrs Store

Editorial Reviews

The Corrs sound comfortably at home on this orchestrally enhanced acoustic gig, recorded at Ardmore Studios outside Dublin in early October 1999. With only two studio albums to their credit, it may seem a bit early to go for an Unplugged rerun, but the inclusion of two new Corrs-penned songs and a trio of previously unheard covers, in addition to the live greatest hits, means there's something fresh to enjoy. An unplugged session also establishes clearly that the Corrs, in danger of being perceived as pop puppets, are a real band who play and sing beautifully and can deliver the goods live. Encouragingly, the two new songs, "Radio" and "At Your Side," are well up to the usual Corrs standard, while much of the already familiar material benefits from tasty arrangements--"What Can I Do" in particular works better than the dance-remix hit version. --Johnny Black

4.0 out of 5 stars Elegant pop with an Irish accent, March 19, 2001
This review is from: Unplugged (Audio CD)
Are you sure this was taken live? The album production is so polished that the only indication of a live performance is the applause between songs. While it's true that this performance is "unplugged," there's an entire orchestra backing up the four-piece band. The arrangements, though, are excellent.

But what about the Corrs themselves? The group's playing ability is definitely top-notch; they may not be virtuosos, but their chemistry as an ensemble is unmatched. I guess it helps to be siblings. I confess, I did not know any of this band's songs before getting the CD -- it was a gift to me from one of my cousins overseas. Turns out that good musical taste runs in the family. What's not to like about the crystalline vocal harmonies and gently rolling instrumental parts? Every track's a good one, even if some songs sound kinda same-ish and nondescript.

The 2-3-4 combo of "What Can I Do," "Radio" and "Toss the Feathers" (the last one a folk instrumental) is by far the best part of the album, but listening to the end of the CD has its reward -- the band's cover of R.E.M.'s "Everybody Hurts" is a beautiful interpretation that would make Michael Stipe proud.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Corrs album, January 31, 2002

This is my favourite Corrs album. Everything else from the Corrs has paled in comparison to the lively atmosphere that exudes from this recording. The Corrs has a wonderful synergy with the audience in this album, their MTV Unplugged recording of "Toss a feather" is still the best recording they ever did on this track.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Magic, July 1, 2001
This review is from: Unplugged (Audio CD)
I am a Corrs' fan for a while now... And believe me - I'm not a pop person. Not at all.. But the Corrs has something different in them. I can't call them a "pop" band... Because they aren't. They make thier music out of their soul, and in this Uplugged album you can see it in the best way. The songs here are amazing. So is the music. In this album they show the whole world that they can make music... and a beautiful one, too. Some songs are already known, but there are some covers and some new songs that we will soon find on "In Blue" (which is much more disappointing). "At Your Side" is catchy and fun with lines like "I'll be at your side, there's no need to worry, together we'll survive through the haste and hurry...", Radio is more rocky, No Frontiers has great lyrics ("if life is a river, and your heart is a soul, and just like the water, baby, born to float..."), Old Town id upbeat and makes you wanna jump off your feet, and Everybody Hurts is just perfect. I'm also an REM fan, and I still can't decide which version I like more. Andrea sings it so powerfuly and so Passionately... It just makes you wanna cry. The instrumental tracks are also great. Toss The Feathers is so Irish and so makes you wanna dance, or at least watch "Lord of the Dance" and Erin Shore is just relaxing.. This album is my favourite so far, and I don't think it's gonna change for a long while. This is the album that I put in my CD Player every night when I go to sleep, and the album that I play whenever I feel sad or angry. It's just relaxing.. and it makes you feel fine. You listen to it and you just drown into Andrea's voice and into the wonderful music.. So buy it, and I promise you you won't regret it. It's just pure magic!
