Elegant pop with an Irish accent,
This review is from: Unplugged (Audio CD)
Are you sure this was taken live? The album production is so polished that the only indication of a live performance is the applause between songs. While it's true that this performance is "unplugged," there's an entire orchestra backing up the four-piece band. The arrangements, though, are excellent. But what about the Corrs themselves? The group's playing ability is definitely top-notch; they may not be virtuosos, but their chemistry as an ensemble is unmatched. I guess it helps to be siblings. I confess, I did not know any of this band's songs before getting the CD -- it was a gift to me from one of my cousins overseas. Turns out that good musical taste runs in the family. What's not to like about the crystalline vocal harmonies and gently rolling instrumental parts? Every track's a good one, even if some songs sound kinda same-ish and nondescript. The 2-3-4 combo of "What Can I Do," "Radio" and "Toss the Feathers" (the last one a folk instrumental) is by far the best part of the album, but listening to the end of the CD has its reward -- the band's cover of R.E.M.'s "Everybody Hurts" is a beautiful interpretation that would make Michael Stipe proud.

My favorite Corrs album,

This is my favourite Corrs album. Everything else from the Corrs has paled in comparison to the lively atmosphere that exudes from this recording. The Corrs has a wonderful synergy with the audience in this album, their MTV Unplugged recording of "Toss a feather" is still the best recording they ever did on this track.

Pure Magic,

I am a Corrs' fan for a while now... And believe me - I'm not a pop person. Not at all.. But the Corrs has something different in them. I can't call them a "pop" band... Because they aren't. They make thier music out of their soul, and in this Uplugged album you can see it in the best way. The songs here are amazing. So is the music. In this album they show the whole world that they can make music... and a beautiful one, too. Some songs are already known, but there are some covers and some new songs that we will soon find on "In Blue" (which is much more disappointing). "At Your Side" is catchy and fun with lines like "I'll be at your side, there's no need to worry, together we'll survive through the haste and hurry...", Radio is more rocky, No Frontiers has great lyrics ("if life is a river, and your heart is a soul, and just like the water, baby, born to float..."), Old Town id upbeat and makes you wanna jump off your feet, and Everybody Hurts is just perfect. I'm also an REM fan, and I still can't decide which version I like more. Andrea sings it so powerfuly and so Passionately... It just makes you wanna cry. The instrumental tracks are also great. Toss The Feathers is so Irish and so makes you wanna dance, or at least watch "Lord of the Dance" and Erin Shore is just relaxing.. This album is my favourite so far, and I don't think it's gonna change for a long while. This is the album that I put in my CD Player every night when I go to sleep, and the album that I play whenever I feel sad or angry. It's just relaxing.. and it makes you feel fine. You listen to it and you just drown into Andrea's voice and into the wonderful music.. So buy it, and I promise you you won't regret it. It's just pure magic!

Amazing Music,

As a fan of the band for some time, I snapped this CD up ASAP. But I must admit, each time I pop it into the changer, I enjoy it more. Now that 'In Blue' is making its mark on U.S. audiences, 'Unplugged' seems to sound even better. You can never realy appreciate the talent of an artist or band, until you hear them in front of a live audience, without the benefits of the mixing and vocal manipulations the so many artists rely on these days, to make their voices sound better than they actually are.The Corrs do an amazing job of replicating their recorded sound in front concertgoers and even sound great doing -what at the time- were new, unrecorded(and unfamiliar) songs. The voices of these Irish siblings blend so beautifully, it will take your breath away. I think the highlights of this CD are the covers of REM's 'Everybody Hurts', Jimi Hendrix's classic 'Little Wing' and an amazing ballad called 'No Frontiers'. This disc is music that you can play at work, at home , in the car, on your portable... wherever! Get this one. You won't be sorry The harmonies alone are worth the price.

Irish Delight,

Andrea Corr's lovely voice gives us this wonderful treat. Beginning with the flirtatious 'Only When I Sleep', including the catchy 'What Can I Do' and ending with the inspiring and soothing 'Everybody Hurts', as well as the classically Irish 'Toss the Feathers' (punctuated by Andrea Corr's adorable giggle) the melodious 'Queen of Hollywood', and the uplifting and catchy 'So Young: This is the best of the best.Beautiful girls, beautiful music, beautiful lyrics, beautiful voices Blessed be the Corrs.

This cd is far and away their best. This family band was born to play live. I love the unplugged verisons of the songs better than the originals. It I was their manager I have them only release unplugged albums. Long Live The Corrs.

What can be better than a Studio Album from the Corrs? Well, an Unplugged Album. The Corrs have done a terrific job. Most of my favourite Corrs-Songs are on this record and some new ones, too. "At your Side" is a wonderful song about friendship, "No Frontiers" sung by Sharon and Caroline proves that not just Andrea has an amazing voice, "Old Town" is cool, especially with the trumpet, "Everybody hurts" is as good as the original, "Radio" wasn't my favourite at first, but has grown a lot on me. I have this record since November 1999 and can't stop listening to it.

A lot like a studio album,

The thing about The Corrs is that their music is already so acoustic-minded that the difference from their studio albums to this »MTV Unplugged« is really not that big. This is simply brilliant Irish modern folk. Some of the band's best songs and an interesting (but not necessary) version of R.E.M.'s »Everybody Hurts«. Very few bands make something really smashing out of their Unplugged sessions. The Corrs is an exception. Nearly. 'Cause I still think their studio versions of the songs featured on this album are a little bit better, having more power than the Unplugged versions.

Best Corrs CD Ever...(so far),
By "corrsfan77" (Massachusetts, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Unplugged (Audio CD)
This incredible CD blends the incredible foursome's own songs including Runaway, What Can I Do, and So Young, with new songs, including their new single Radio which is incredible, Old Town, At Your Side, Everybody Hurts, and my personal favorite on the album, No Frontiers. In this song, the two backup singers, Sharon (violin), and Caroline (drums)perform this soft mellow ballad, making it a captivating and breathtaking song. Both of them sound incredible together, and should have more solos! Overall, Andrea (the lead singer) sings the best ever, and the whole band deserve an A+ for this incredible CD. It is definately worth the money (even though you can find it for much cheaper at HMV.com) :-)

If you're a fan of the Corrs, you'll enjoy "the Corrs unplugged"...a compilation of favorites. Their distinctive harmonic sound, catchy lyrics and melodies will be a pleasure to listen to...or to croon along with, if you're so inclined. Close your eyes as you listen to the live-recorded, rather than studio-generated and enhanced, performance and imagine yourself sitting at the edge of their stage during a live concert. The next best thing to being there.
