5.0 out of 5 stars A Remarkable Success!, December 22, 1999
By
Jaime Pih (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) - See all my reviews
Ireland's pride and joy, The Corrs, are congratulated on their spectacular unplugged performance and excellent album. Never failing to amaze us, this is yet another fantastic album which deserves much praise.

Consisting of both new and old tracks, they were able to deliver mesmerising pieces such as 'Only When I Sleep' and 'Forgiven Not Forgotten', beautifully complemented with splendid orchestral arrangement.

Songs such as 'Radio', 'At Your Side' and 'Old Town' were introduced for the first time with favourable outcome. The tune to 'Radio' is somewhat unique, differing it from other tracks, yet is able to blend in well. For a good source of encouragement and inspiration, 'At Your Side' and the cover version of REM's 'Everybody Hurts', helps (both lyrically and melodically) provide reassurance and warmth to one's heart. In 'Old Town', it has been said that Andrea Corr shows certain similarity to that of Karen Carpenter from the Carpenters, based on her voice and the catchy tune of the song.

A true breathtaking track was the cover version of Mary Black's 'No Frontiers'...a lovely duet performed by Sharon and Caroline Corr, with just the simple playing of the piano and these two angelic voices - It is purely serene.

The sibling quartet's rendition of Jimmy Hendrix's 'Little Wing' is a perfect example of Celtic-Pop, blended together. Listening to that celtic touch in this track makes one wonder of the amazing combination and how much there is to be admired.

For those who have a burning desire and affection for Irish tunes, be rest assured that 'Toss The Feathers' and 'Lough Erin Shore' will be of NO disappointment whatsoever. The tin whistle, violin and bodhran are played so beautifully, that it's not a wonder if one's mind were to runaway, picturing Ireland's Shore when listening to 'Erin Shore' itself. As for 'Runaway', it has made its mark as one of the first and best Corrs love songs ever, even more in this unplugged version.

Included in this album is the single for 'Rainy Day' - a bubbly and cheerful song, it works in putting a smile on your face.

Well designed, with a nice CD sleeve layout and good photography of pictures, and cardboard boxed together with the 'Rainy Day' single, The Corrs Unplugged Album makes a perfect gift for all ages...be it for someone else, or for your own heart's content and listening pleasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wowee! Fantastic!, December 9, 1999
By
Ben (Singapore) - See all my reviews
Wow! They've done it again. The Corrs have proven time and time again that they CAN perform live and this is one exceptional recording. Besides performing songs from their previous two studio albums, there are six new songs, all of them beautifully performed. Radio and Rainy Day as well as Old Town are so fresh sounding, you'll never take the disc out of your CD player. As is their trademark sound, expect a Celtic-pop-orchestra sound. It works! Although this is an unplugged album, the songs ring through loud & clear and it actually sounds like a studio recording. A pity though, they didn't really interact with the audience a little bit more. This album is worth your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars InCORRigible, May 13, 2000
The unchanging Corrs have done it again with their smashing album, Unplugged. The CD gave an air of being right there with them and maybe that's true of all "unplugged"s, but I just thought this was absolutely fab. It's amazing how talented the Corrs are - I was surprised to see only 12 reviews for this CD. They are all very good but my absolute fav player is Caroline - having heard her in "Toss the Feathers" I don't think anyone could doubt she is a world-class drummer.

The CD includes both the famous Corrs songs ("Only when I sleep" has been in my head for three days now) and traditional Irish folk songs which are great. The album ends with a Corrs version of "Everybody Hurts", performed exceptionally well. To Andrea, Sharon, Caroline and Jim - thumbs up, five stars - you guys rule!

5.0 out of 5 stars the greatest unplugged album of all times!, December 10, 2000
By
Rodrigo Medina (Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro Brazil) - See all my reviews
For those who do not know the corrs, they are an irish band who has already conquered europe and is touring is US. This unplugged album is amazing, not only for fans of the band, but also for people who like music with quality.

The CD was recorded in MTV studios last year, and has already sold thousands copies around the world. It certainly has memorable tracks, such as REM's "Everybody Hurts", in a very touching interpretation of the corrs.

"Radio", a song later released in their studio album IN BLUE, is loved by fans in the acoustic version. The recording is great, and you can listen to every single instrument of the orchestra who joined them in this special. "At your side", another track recorded for IN BLUE, is also good to listen to.

It's also worth mentioning "Runaway", one of the bands greatest hits, which became very powerful in acoustic version.

In the unplugged album, you can also find the great "Old Town", a cheerful classic and popular song, which is one of my favorites.

Other great track is "No frontiers", from Jimmy McCarth. It has the wonderful vocals of Sharon (violinist) and Caroline (drummer), and the lyrics make it a very special song.

The greatest performance of the orchestra who joined them in this unplugged is in "Only when I sleep". Everytime I listen to it, I get emotional.

This is certainly one of the best CD's I have. It doesn't matter if you do not know the corrs or if you are already a fan...just get this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars A nice evening with the Corrs, December 2, 2003
By
Deep Girl (heart of Europe) - See all my reviews
"Unplugged" has been recorded on 5th October 1999 at Ardmore Studios in Ireland for MTV Music Television (MTV produces Unplugged series since 80`s) in pleasant atmosphere accompanied by The Irish Film Orchestra. In my opinion, this is one of the best, even the best concert in The Corrs' career. Containing their classics (Only When I Sleep, Runaway, What Can I Do...), some covers (Old Town by Phil Lynott, No Frontiers by Jim McCarthy, Everybody Hurts by R.E.M.) and two new songs taken from the prepared In Blue album (Radio, At Your Side) - this is a short preview of the stuff you can find there. But if you listen to this CD, you will be simply breathless. You know, all the Corrs' songs seem to be written especially for an acoustic performance which really suits them... I must not forget their talent and their ability to play live so fantastic. Unfortunatelly, before this CD was released, Corrs' mom Jean died at the hospital while waiting for lungs transplantation...

Songs review
Only When I Sleep - opening the concert - "Ladies and Gentlemen, please, welcome... The Corrs!". Sit down, feel comfortable, more than one hour of the best music is expecting you...

What Can I Do - the beginning is inspired by the original version from the Talk On Corners album, but the vocals are replaced by strings. After refrain you can feel the influence of remix by Tin Tin Out. It ends with impressive "Hold me and love me", typicall for the live performance...

Radio - the first new song on the album, full of memories and nostalgy of what we had and what is over now... It was performed brilliantly on the concert, maybe that's the reason I don't undersatnd how it was even possible to defile it few month later for In Blue album...

Toss The Feathers - this acoustic version without hard sounds of electric guitars makes you even calm... Caroline shows herself as an excellent bodhran player. It is funny to me, that in the middle of the performance audience considered it to be the end and started to clap. Ooops ...

Runaway - a really "classic". Always sweet, always loving... and always touching your heart:-)

Forgiven, Not Forgotten - an excellent performance... It includes also intro as Sharon's violin solo. It also makes me.. calm. But still haunting and still brilliant!

At Your Side - a new number two, which also deserved a terrible defiling on In Blue album. But here it is one of the pillars of the album. It is about a friendship strenght, that you always need someone you can rely on, who catches your hand when you fall...

Little Wing - Jim together with Anto Drennan and Keith Duffy performed here an excellent guitar play. A cover of Jim Hedrix's song got a big applause...

No Frontiers - Andrea took rest a little while and that's a chance for Caroline and Sharon to show how good singers they are. Only acocmpanied by piano they sung a great cover by Jim McCarthy. (Well, dear Andrea, don't U think that you should leave more space for your sisters? :-)

Queen Of Hollywood - a song which conquered hearts of fans all around the world even though it was never released as a single. It cannot be missed here! But what I miss is a folk outro, as it was performed on the album version...

Old Town - I love this song! It is so true and open-hearted that sometimes I cannot believe it... "The girl's a fool she broke the rules, she hurt him hard, this time he will break down, she's lost his trust and so she must know all is lost..." Yes, yes, the trust is what is the most important in the relationships. It is just like a rose made of glass - beautiful, but so fragile. And if you break this rose, even by accident, not intentionally, you cannot make it as it used to be before. Either you are not able to put it together or if you happen to glue it together after troubles, it always leaves scars... "She plays it hard, she plays it tough, but that's enough - the love is over, she's broke his heart and that is rough, but in the end she'll soon recover the romance is over". And one more comment: You know, how does it feel to spend your money in the Old Town when you know that the one you love so is NOT HERE? "I've been spending my money in the old town, but it's not the same, honey, with you not around..."

Lough Erin Shore - it always reminds me green valleys of the genuine Ireland, the arrangement doesn't matter:-))

So Young - a live performance suits this song more. Why? It makes it more free, more true, more spontaneous... and more ..."live":-)

Everybody Hurts - to re-make a classic is always so hard task, but the Corrs did well. They played it for the first time during a charity concert in Omagh after a terrorist bomb attack... and they've keep it... Even though the songs was played in the middle of MTV sesison, you can find it on the very end of the album... as a song for goodbye...
----------------------------------------------
Dreams - Japaneses, Americans and Mexicans "deserved" one more track... For the others it is available on standard DVD or Radio single. And as always, this unplugged arrangement suits this song so;-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Forgotten, June 27, 2000
Too many times you get a cd and within a few weeks or days you're on to the newest addition to your collection, never getting your money's worth. Although I've heard a few Corrs' songs, this is the first cd of theirs that I've owned. It hasn't left my cd player since I got it, which is at least 2 months ago. I'm very fussy about my music, very few get my approval, but talk about being in another world with music. Talented and artistic, this group is the perfect gift, either to yourself or a friend. I know you'll enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Now a Confirmed 'The Corrs' Fan, July 3, 2005
By
I was totally blown away by the magnitude of brilliance that this band performed in this MTV Unplugged performance in Dublin back in 1999. I did not truly appreciate their music style and didn't think much of them as a band until this CD. Andrea Corr the lead vocalist has a stunning and talented voice, in the top 5 of female lead vocalists that have fantastic voices. This Irish group has all the talent and in this CD with an orchestral arrangement in the background have excelled. Two new music songs are introduced 'Radio' and 'Dreams'. These two songs are as good as the traditional Irish instrumental songs that are in their own right majestic.

This group related to each other have not lost their connection to their roots and quite simply and amazingly create their sound around the use of beautiful and ancient Irish musical instruments like the "Bodhran" and "Dobro". They mix the new songs with their older hits like 'Forgiven, Not Forgotten', 'Runaway' and 'Queen of Hollywood'.

This CD is entertaining and anyone who listens to this band will become instant fans of this purely Irish talent called 'The Corrs'.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Corrs' Talent Shines Brightly, May 12, 2003
By A Customer
This is a great cd of material. All the songs are wonderfully represented in this acoustic setting. The rich orchestral arrangements complement the songs brilliantly. You can listen to this cd from start to finish without skipping a track.

Anyone under the impression that this band is a studio concoction will be quickly educated to the depths of this band's enormous talent by listening to this cd. And perhaps the best reason to buy this album is that their truly awful song "Breathless" isn't on it.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favourite album from my favourite band!, April 25, 2003
By
"mr_michaelangelo" (Sydney, NSW Australia) - See all my reviews
For all those who love The Corrs - and I am definitely one of them - it is great to hear the songs presented in a different way such as this. For those that don't know The Corrs, think beautiful melodies, wonderfully clear singing and a haunting mix of violin, keyboard, acoustic guitar and more traditional Irish instruments. This is music to listen to and feel happy about the world.

There seems to be even more passion in Andrea's singing than usual, which brings out the best in songs like Runaway and Queen of Hollywood, while the unplugged setting showcases the band's great musicianship. There are also several great covers of classic songs, the standouts being No Frontiers (which brings goosebumps every time I hear it) and Old Town. These songs are the standouts, but there are no real weak points on the album.

In short, if you want an introduction to one of the world's most talented pop bands beyond the usual greatest hits package, then this is a great way to do it. If you are already a fan, this is a must!

I absolutely love this CD. The Corrs are one of the best sounding bands today, This cd showcases that perfectly. Every thing just sounds great. From Andrea's voice, Sharon's volin playing, Caroline's drum playing and Jim's guitar it's clear that they know how to perform. Do your self a favor and buy this cd.
