4.0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile addition to "The Flatlanders"
While all of the tracks save two overlap with "The Flatlanders: More a Legend than a Band", this CD is still a must have item in a Jimmie Dale Gilmore collection. Those two tracks: "Waiting for a Train" by Jimmie Rogers and "Hello Stranger" by A.P. Carter, are songs from the very roots of country music, and are rendered here in spectacular...

2.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware - "Unplugged" maybe, but certainly not [LIVE]

Despite...addition of the word [LIVE] to Sun Records' original title, don't be fooled, as I was. With the exception of "Waiting for a Train" and "Hello Stranger", the tracks on this album were made from the same analog masters used to make _More a Legend Than a Band_. Again, this is an alternate release of old studio material, not a live performance as understood in the "MTV Unplugged" sense.

So, if you already own _More a Legend Than a Band_, know that you will simply be paying $[money]each for "Waiting for a Train" and "Hello Stranger".

That being said, either _"Unplugged"_ or _More a Legend Than a Band_ is wonderful album, meriting four stars. If you own either, though, the other is worth less than one star.

I'm a huge fan of both the Flatlanders and Jimmie Dale Gilmore. I think this CD is as good as anything they've done. As much as I like Jimmie Dale, it's great to hear Joe Ely and Butch Hancock.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard to Find, March 9, 2003

This is the first time I've ever had to order a second tape because I wore the first one out. I play this tape when I'm traveling long distance and I always arrive relaxed and refreshed. This tape is equivalent to being in a time warp--you're in a different world--I sing as I drive and these songs create a different universe.

This CD is comfort music from beginning to end. All of the songs have poetic lyrics I can get something from each time I listen. A must have in any collection.
