I'm a huge John Denver fan. I was reluctant to buy this but I bought it anyway and I'm very glad I did. I had goosebumps throughout this entire 3 CD set. I've seen John Denver in concert with the entire band and orchestra and that was brilliant. But to hear John Denver singing his songs with just a guitar is something else. This collection makes you wish you were there. In fact, listening to this you feel as if you are there. This is probably the most beautiful live John Denver CD ever released. Forget the orchestra and band, John does brilliantly on his own with just him and his guitar. He sings at least 30 of his hits from his entire career. The feelings you feel listening to this is out of this world. John Denver is one of those artists that always delivers and makes you feel a part of his performance. This CD is a 3 CD set that comes in a tin box but that doesn't matter. It's not what the CD is contained in. It's what's contained in the CDs themselves and believe me, you don't want to miss this collection. This is a must for anyone so buy the CD, put on the CD player, kick back and enjoy the show.

i have been john denver fan ever since i can remember and this set is a pure joy with wonderful guitar accompaniments.i was impressed with the rich timbre and textures of the music despite the fact that their was no orchestral back-up which is the norm in most of the denver discs that i possess.in short-a joy to listen to,and beautiful

EXCELLENT 2 CD CONCERT - JOHN AT HIS BEST & I LOVE THE COLLECTORS TIN - IT LOOKS GREAT - I HOPE MORE JOHN DENVER CD RELEASES ARE GIVEN SUCH WONDERFULL TREATMENT AS THIS.

The world is a much sadder place without John Denver. But we still have his essence, his music. I often find myself longing for new songs that I know will never come. But recently I discovered Unplugged In The USSR. THIS, is as close as I will ever get. Any artist performing "unplugged" is usually a treat and this is no exception. Just John and his guitar, no back-up, no orchestra, no drums, no tambourine. For someone who loves to play guitar, hearing the pure sound of John's playing is awe inspiring. Ever want your own personal concert? This is it. Thank you Ron Deutschendorf, you've given me something of John that I will cherish forever.

I purchesed this for both the unplugged live version Of this Concert, but also because it says it has a Bonus Video on CD 3. However, if it is there, I haven't found a way to get it to play that video. I listened to all 3 CD's today on a player that plays video CD & DVD's and even on my laptop computer that usually plays video CD's, but neither seemed to find or play this Bonus Video...that is the only reason for the 4 star over the 5 star as the CD's are very well done and John's voice is excellent. As an long time Fan of John Denver I have most all his records as well as their CD counterparts and many DVD's of him in Concert etc. This was dissappointing not to see this "Bonus Video" anyone else out there have this problem who purchased this set?, or if anyone knows how to see that video can you tell me how you got it to play?

John Denver - Unplugged in the USSR is an amazing cd set of his acoutistic concerts in the USSR in 1985. Amazing! Awesome! I have been a John Denver fan for a long time & thought I had a good collection of his recordings. Then I saw this one & read the reviews & thought that I might as well check it out. Wow! Am I glad that I asked for this as a gift! His voice is incredibly clear and precise. I think this is my favorite of all of the concert recordings that I have heard. Wow! What a talent he had. What a loss when he passed away. I can only imagine what other gifts he might have shared with the world. But at least we were able to share his music and wisdom during his lifetime. What a wonderful thing he did when he performed for all of us, especially the people of the USSR during the 80s. Amazing! I would definitely recommend that any fan of John's add this great concert to their collection. You'll be glad you did!

This is the best John Denver music we have ever heard. We used this album's version of "Sunshine on my Shoulders" for the Father-Bride dance at our daughter's wedding. It was beautiful and everyone had tears in their eyes.

We have listened to John Denver since we started dating in 1969 and this is the best. His voice is strong and mature and the album is just his voice and his guitar. It is now our favorite. This is a must-have for any John Denver collection.

This is JD at his best! I had the pleasure of meeting him at a resort in Italy where he played guitar and piano in the lobby for a small group of people. It was the single-most impressive "concert" I have ever heard. Do yourself a favor and get this boxed set.

I found this at the Ernest Tubb Record Store in Nashville ... and like the other reviewers was blown away by this CD collection. A good sampling across his work, including PP&P and Farewell Andromeda- very surprised to hear Follow Me (and the applause from the person who knew what he was about to sing). His voice is about as well toned as I've ever heard it (Calypso like you've never heard it). Not very well mixed - you get the feeling that the sound guy was told to push up John's mic track and keep everything else as low as possible. They could have EASILY left off the "Peace Poem" and "The Bells" - "Late Night Radio" would have been a good replacement but guess they thought the Ruskies would think it was a reference to the Voice of America. If you're a JD fan, don't think twice.

I have only lately discovered John Denver's voice and music. I've nearly cleaned Amazon out of its JD collection! I'm like the reviewer who said she wished there were more of both still coming down the pike. What a wonderful voice. What impressive songwriting. What a simply great man. I, too, couldn't figure out how to play the DVD portion of the 3rd disc until I tried it on my fairly new laptop. Then it played just fine. I have come to appreciate all recordings of JD's concert performances in preferance to the studio albums. The synergy created between audience and John produces a high for both. For old fans and new ones, this Unplugged in the USSR is very nearly the very best of John Denver. All alone, just John and his guitar, a glorious private concert. His voice is pure sound and the quality of the recording is perfect. How is it that it was shelved for 20 years??!! You cannot go wrong! It would be an Amazon bargain at twice the price.
