2.0 out of 5 stars Tony Bennett - Voice Not what it use to be
You can easily see that this man is struggling to hit the notes. With respect to this great singer , the DVD does not do him justice.

The picture quality is poor and the bass at times just jumps up to an annoying sound. The once smooth Bennett is struggling and this is even more evident when singing with KD Lang and Elvis Costello.

I'm a Tony Bennett fan , but I...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sound, performance and recording of Tony Bennett, February 8, 1999

Tony Bennett has performed in every major city in every important country around the world, but there hasn't been a live documentation of his unique abilities until MTV:unplugged recorded him in 1994. I have the videotape and the laser disc of this same concert and they do not compare to the DVD! The seperation ,frequency response and front-to- back imaging are in a class by themselves; not to mention the performances from his 'sidemen' which are SOTA! But it is Tony Bennett who at his prime chose to do a concert that is in a class by itself. You owe it to yourselves if you think of yourself as a Tony Bennett fan already or you've had thoughts about getting into the 'standards' and who sings them best. Tony Bennett often refers to Frank Sinatra as the king of the balladeers, but he is being respectful to a national legend; when it is he who has got the musicians, recording engineers, MTV together to combine forces in a once-in-a-lifetime chance at performing. Some people have said that his small inclusion of K.D. Lang & Elvis Costello was a form of selling out, but I say it's to let the "MTV crowd" know that his music cuts across all generations and will continue to grow in attecptance with young people. What are you waiting for? This is the BEST jazz recording you will ever own! . . . Morris Zwerman

5.0 out of 5 stars What a pleasure!, March 24, 2002
By
My husband and I are Tony Bennett fans and really enjoy his music. ... What a pleasure it was to watch and listen to Mr. Bennett do his thing! He is a true professional. Yes, his voice has changed over the years but all true fans are quite aware of that. But to have seen and heard him perform was unbelievable. To think, after all these years, Mr. Bennet is as smooth as ever, maybe even more so. And man, can he crank it!

I always show this video to my friends that are not very sure about what jazz music is about. This video is really fantastic I'll never get tired of seeing it. If you like jazz, buy it. And if you don't, buy it and you'll be a jazz fan forever!

My husband and I are Tony Bennett fans and really enjoy his music. But after reading a review here on Amazon I was apprehensive about buying a copy of this DVD. Boy, am I glad I listened to my instincts and bought it anyway. What a pleasure it was to watch and listen to Mr. Bennett do his thing! He is a true professional. 4.0 out of 5 stars Musical Icon for a New Generation, January 24, 2009

(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
In 1994 Tony Bennett reestablished himself as an icon for the MTV generation. He appeared on the network's Unplugged in support of his new albums Perfectly Frank and Steppin' Out. In so doing he endeared himself to a new generation of fans and received critical attention the likes of which is usually reserved for new rock stars.

This disc is a record of the show. Bennett accompanied by the Ralph Sharon Trio perform twenty-one classics from the great American songbook all done in Bennett's cool sinature style. Highlights include a truly unplugged Fly Me To the Moon, It Had to Be You, Rags to Riches, and the signature I Left My Heart in San Francisco. The disc includes duets with Elvis Costello and k.d. Lang.

With a run time of only 72 minutes the disc gives the audience a chance to experience one of the world's great entertainers and leaves them wanting more. This disc would also serve as a great introduction for new fans. The disc is presented in fullscreen with Dolby Surround sound.

I'm a Tony Bennett fan , but I was disappointed with many aspects of this DVD. Even after several adjustments of Sub Woofer, Bass, speaker decibels, the sound reproduction of some of the intruments dominant the sound.

Sorry Tony, my money would have been spent better else where.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mostly Incredible, March 29, 2004
By A Customer
This was one of the most electrifying DVD's I have ever seen...which I bought after playing the CD countless times. Tony's voice is sweet, his phrasing impeccable, the musicians perfectly matching the incredible warmth and range that his voice has gotten as it sweetened and matured like a perfect wine.

The only poor spot on the both the DVD and the CD is the inclusion of Elvis Costello; I cannot for the life of me envision a less talented, pathetic drag of a performer. He genuinely marred the succulence of this encapsulation of years of talent. I cannot imagine what pathetic act of utter desperation created the opportunity for this talentless clown to perform with the scion of musical talent. Tony needs dreck like this like I need a hole in the head.

On the other hand, k.d. lang added zest and joy to the mix. As her other performance with Tony proved, she is the perfect and wonderful balance to the voal gifts that have been so generously shared with us for years.
