A showcase collection of short stories,

This review is from: Unplugged: The Web's Best Sci-Fi & Fantasy, 2008 (Paperback)
There's a overabundance of fiction published on the internet, and the quality is uneven. How can you get to the good stuff? You simply cannot read all the short fiction put out there on any given year, so this collection puts the best of the best of all 2008 in one convenient place for easy access.
I'd heard great things about many of these stories, such as Cory Doctorow's "The Things That Make Me Weak and Strange Get Engineered Away" (Wow, btw!) - but had not read them until I got this book. And it's so nice to have a paper copy of a personal favorite, Mercurio D. Rivera's "Snatch Me Another," a story about being able to steal from alternate universes and how that causes a breakdown in society. There's not a piece of deadwood in the bunch, and if you're a fan of short fiction this is a must-add to your collection. |
