5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Better, September 26, 2005
This review is from: Unpolished (Audio CD)
I agree 100% with all the previous reviews of this cd. There is no better roots reggae out there today and this has become one of my favorite albums. I just wanted to point out that if you really liked this album then you should check out their release "Jubilees of Zion" which was recorded in 2002. This is not available i don't think on amazon but you can get it through their website. Midnite has many albums which vary somewhat in style and i've found this album to be the most like "Unpolished". Although i don't think its quite as good as "Unpolished", its most definitely worth checking out and is very good. Also don't miss "Ras Mek Peace" which was recorded only using two mics and contains no added effects. Its like you're listening to them play in your basement and their talent really shows through.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent But..., May 1, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Unpolished (Audio CD)
This is a terrific roots release that hinted at the groups potential. That potential was realized in 2002 with the release of "Assini", one of the greatest reggae albums ever. No scratch that, it is one of the greatest records ever, regardless of genre. It's not available at Amazon.com so go to a reggae specialist site and find it there. The "Assini" masterpiece is on a small label, so act quickly!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, July 17, 2004

I have over 300 reggae albums in my collection which includes some of the best of all times. I just happened to be listening to XM radio one day in my car and stumbled across this group. To make a long story short, I ordered "Unpolished". These guys are bad to the bone! This is what reggae is all about. Get this cd, you will be amazed at the talent of this group. This ain't that dancehall crap that you can't understand half of what's being said, its solid...believe me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Serenity, December 7, 2006

Midnite and "unpolished" bring a pureness that is so rarely found in modern day. A serene essence will pour out of this album when you first listen to it, as does many of their others. Live, they leave you with the same feeling. Their music is a true inspiration to the music world. I highly recommend all their albums, especially this one, which demonstrates their extremely intelligent lyrics and original, hypnotic roots. A MUST have.

5.0 out of 5 stars pure joy!!!!!!, January 7, 2004
This review is from: Unpolished (Audio CD)
when i first heard this album i was blown away, i can't think of any other album except for Gondwana's "second coming" and Millo Torres y el tercer planeta's "soñando realidad" that is so joyful and so well realized. all the songs in here are just perfect from the amazing "bushman" with it's great lyrics to the last track is just perfect. if you are an avid listener of lyrics you can hear in this album a person in love with his life and aware of the injustices of it. give it a chance if you don't like the feeling you get listening to this album then true reggae is not for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning, July 24, 2002

This is the original sound reggae fans have been searching for.

Hailing from St. Croix and living in Washington DC for the past several years,
Midnite has one of the most incredible voices ever heard in Vaughn Benjamin
--somehow powerful and sad and dripping with emotion in every lyric.

"Lift up your head, Selassie I,
I and I chant Rastafari, tell them come
look inna the Lion's eye."

If you want to be even more blown away,
pick up "Seek Knowledge Not Vengeance,"

Midnite's new release. All of their
albums are a stunning leap in the roots reggae sound.

Jah has to love this one. I had a chance to see Midnite twice
here in Charlotte. I was blown away. It is roots at its' best. I have been listening to reggae for over twenty years and I know reggae. I also know that Midnite has the potential to be recognized as one of the greatest reggae bands in recent times.

5.0 out of 5 stars time is not counted by daylight, but from midnite..., August 1, 2001

quality, in the end, always distinguishes itself. to call midnite the best roots reggae out there today is accurate, but it is also limiting. i submit to you that midnite, because of their insightful lyrics and air tight riddim, is one of the all time best reggae bands. ever. and these guys keep pumping out albums, because they have so much things to say, real things, no recycling here. buy this, but them all and enjoy the ride.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't listen to propaganda, January 7, 2009
This review is from: Unpolished (Audio CD)
Original man he was black he was black he was a african, carbon, eh wa.
Science will show that and prove that over and over again Jah see and know.
Midnite is without a doubt one of the best reggae bands to ever grace this earth. I've been listening to more of the "pop" artists in my lifetime(Bob, Burning Spear, Steel Pulse) and when a friend of mine popped this cd in and Bushman started blaring I was hooked right away. Every single song on this disc is top notch. Get this disc you won't regret it. I also have their cd Ras Mek Peace which is also a good disc. Sound quality is not as good as Unpolished but the music and lyrics more than makes up for it.
