4.0 out of 5 stars I lOVE THIS AUTHOR
Louis Kincaid is back. It feels as though I have had to wait forever for another book in this absolutely excellent series.

Louis is just back from a job - he gets a very weird letter from his foster father asking him to come home and find out what happened to the body of the woman that he once loved.

Louis can't say no - so home he goes...

1.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't get beyond Chapter 3
I read up to Chapter 3...at that point, I'd had enough of the character's anti-white rhetoric and put the book down for good. PJ Parrish paints white people with a very broad brush in this book. I am not familiar with the Louis Kincaid mysteries, but I bought this book because it looked interesting; plus the story was set in Michigan where I grew up. When I buy a fiction...

Louis can't say no - so home he goes.

Now, anyone reading this series will know that the Louis character and the storylines in general are always kind of brooding.

Well, get ready because this one tops them all. The first chapters are basically all about Louis and his childhood memories as he is plunged back into a part of his life that was both good and bad. The good thing is that we discover alot about why Louis became the man he is. The bad side is that the tone is extremely introspective and sometimes depressing. Hence by comment about brooding. Louis is never exuberant, but in this book, he is downright comatose at places.

Still, it is an hommage to both the author and the character that he has created that throughout all of this comes out a first-rate thriller. The storyline twists and turns and it kept be going.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I strongly recommend it. I am already waiting for the next Louis Kincaid book - wouldn't it be great if they came more than once a year!

BUY THIS ONE...........

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply terrific!, April 12, 2006
By
nobizinfla "nobizinfla" (Windermere, Florida USA) - See all my reviews

The sisters Montee who write as P.J. Parrish have outdone themselves in an "Unquiet Grave."

They have bumped up their writing and the character of Louis Kincaid to a higher plain in the seventh novel in this wonderful series.

Louis is now a PI on Florida's Gulf Coast. His foster father (Phillip Lawrence) asks Louis to return home (Michigan) to help locate the remains of his first true love (Claudia De Foe).

She was long considered dead, but when her casket was unearthed for relocation, it was filled with rocks.

Claudia was confined at Hidden Lake, an insane asylum, and was buried in their cemetery.

One employee (Nurse Alice) remains at Hidden Lake cleaning up the files and readying the place for demolition. She becomes the inside ally Louis needs to begin his investigation.

Inquiries made by Louis attract enemies, antagonize the State Police & provoke further violence. There is no doubt that foul play was involved in Claudia's death as Hidden Lake holds many sinister, haunting and disturbing enigmas.

Louis's hunt for Claudia's bones develops into part of a larger investigation to find a present day murderer as mutilated bodies turn up at Hidden Lake.

A sleazy tabloid journalist who believes a serial killer (incarcerated at Hidden Lake, supposedly dead for eight years) is the current killer become a most unlikely ally.

The journey to the finale is stylishly presented and intelligently resolved.

While on the case, Louis confronts many of his childhood demons and resolves them enough for some peace with who he is. He truly grows as a character in this tale of suspense of the highest order.

Just spectacular.

5.0 out of 5 stars A suspenser of the highest order, March 1, 2006
"An Unquiet Grave" is a standout thriller from a pair of sisters who write under the name P.J. Parrish. Often books by writing teams don't reflect the strength of style and voice found in works by single authors. That's not a worry here.

Private investigator Louis Kincaid, Parrish's series character, is asked by his foster father to return home to help locate the remains of a woman he once loved. She was long believed dead, but when her grave was opened for transfer, her coffin was found empty. So begins an intriguing and atmospheric story set largely on the grounds of an abandoned insane asylum, a haunting location that contains many dark and barbarous secrets.

With fresh characters and plot, "An Unquiet Grave" is a suspenser of the highest order.

P.J. Parrish has hooked me again with An Unquiet Grave. I couldn't put it down once I started reading and when I did, it was with great reluctance but I had to get some sleep. In addition to the main story, we get a chance to see more interaction between Louis and his foster parents which revealed them to be more than a pleasant memory to him. The story itself showed the vulnerability of his ideal of his foster father and forced him to realize that he is human with his own faults. While dealing with that subject, Louis is in the middle of another case in the only way he knows how to do it, full bore. The characters run the gamut from the hard nose state trooper to the reluctance accomplice to the "I'm above the law antagonist." We also see Louis take another step in his quest to "know" himself and hopefully the author will push him even more in the next book. It is a definite page turner and previous readers should enjoy it. First time readers should also enjoy it; but might want to start at the 1st book to see how Louis got to the place and time he is at now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read, March 13, 2006
I'm not a person of many words, so I certainly couldn't be an author, but I am an avid reader. These two ladies are so super talented. They write page after page with no filler. There is only one other author I read that holds my interest on every single page of their book. This is a must have book. You will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Unquiet Grave GAve Me An Unquiet Mind, August 16, 2010
I just finished reading An Unquiet Grave by PJ Parrish. It's the first book of hers I have read. I tend to judge a book as a good read by whether or not I care about the characters as if they are real people: Do I hate the villain, cry for the victim, worry about the hero? Do I feel fear, sympathy, disgust? Get the goosebumps or a lump in my throat or maybe laugh out loud? Except for not laughing out loud while reading this book, the answer to all my criteria is YES!
I love a good thriller and An Unquiet Grave fills the bill for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, February 12, 2009
This is the first novel I have read by P.J. Parrish, but it won't be the last. This is definitely a thumbs up for this book. While it wasn't so enthralling that I couldn't put it down, it was an excellent read. I would highly recommend this novel to all readers. You won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great read!, March 19, 2008
This novel spins a web around you from the first page. This is my first "Kincaid" novel and I loved the way insights to his personality were weaved into the story. P.J. Parrish does a fantastic job of making her characters believable and sympathetic.
Although I found it almost depressing at times, I couldn't put it down. The twist and turns in the plot kept me reading just one more chapter. I am looking forward to reading the others in the Kincaid series.

If you have never read a Louis Kincaid novel, I urge you to read this one. While they are all good, this one is truly chilling.

You'll be a fan for life. I promise!
