5.0 out of 5 stars Rise Against at it's Best
I just recently bought the new remastered of the unravelling, and wow this album just blew me away, all songs have a different of intensity, some songs are quite fast and others are on a more slower paced side. 3.0 out of 5 stars Weak relative to their other albums
This is Rise Against's first album and to be honest, it shows. In general the music here is unrefined relative to their other albums. The writing and the melodies are weak while the addictive hooks found in their later music haven't showed up yet here. There are a couple songs on the CD I like, but mainly I find myself fast forwarding through most of it. And this is...

I just recently bought the new remastered of the unravelling, and wow this album just blew me away, all songs have a different of intensity, some songs are quite fast and others are on a more slower paced side. Rise Against has been one of my favorite bands since the release of the unravelling. This band shows that punk/hardcore is still alive, cause Rise Against puts together a fast-paced hardcore feel to their music. Unbelievable this album is, also check out Revolutions Per Minute and Siren Sounds of the Counter Culture. This band is gonna go on forever...

The 2 new tracks on the album are proof that Rise Against can still live up to its punk/hardcore expectations. This could be the best remastered album of the year...so go out and buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars hardcore punk with vocals like you've never heard, February 26, 2003

I heard 2 singles off of compilations by Rise Against and I knew that I had to buy their cd. Man, I was not disappointed. They only have one full-length (another out April 8th, I can't wait) and they are one of my very favorite bands. This is such a unique band, they can make hardcore harmonic. It's a thing of beauty. The singer, Tim, can go from screaming one second to singing with amazing tune and precision. Every single song is good, and the lyrics are some of the best in punk rock. They are thought-provoking and intelligent. I can't find a single flaw in this cd. I just saw them live last night (I've been waiting forever to see them) and they put on a fast and furious show which got the crowd into hysterics. Their cd will do the same. Buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Killer tunes!, December 30, 2003
This review is from: Unraveling (Audio CD)
The Unraveling is an extremely impressive first effort from these punk rock veterans. Starting off with "Alive and Well" is a taste for what's to come: fast, talented, and catchy songs. Rise Against creates a beautiful blend of both melodic and hardcore punk, which will please fans of Strike Anywhere, 88 Fingers Louie, Pulley, and many more of the like. Almost every song is amazing, but other standout tracks: Six Ways 'Til Sunday, Reception Fades (my personal favorite), Sometimes Selling Out is Giving Up, and 1000 Good Intentions. The only dud in my opinion is Everchanging. I really cannot stand listening to it.

So if you are a hardcore kid, pick up this album. If you are a pop punk fan, pick up this album. If you like any form of punk rock, or just plain rock 'n roll, pick it up anyways. It will not disappoint you. Also, pick up Revolutions Per Minute, which is even better than The Unraveling. Trust me.

5.0 out of 5 stars review from Synthesis, December 13, 2005
This review is from: Unraveling (Reis) (Rmx) (Audio CD)
Melodic punkers Rise Against have come a long way in a short time. In only five years they have released three albums, their latest for major label Geffen. In the wake of their commercial success the band went back and remastered their first full-length, The Unraveling. Originally released in 2000, this is the Chicago four-piece at their hardest. With breakneck drum beats, shredding guitars and a penchant for singing-into-screeching vocals, it's no wonder that Rise Against's fanbase is as diverse as it is. With a foundation of punk and elements of metal, hardcore and the occasional touch of emo, there is no doubt that this band has a little something to offer everyone. That is, as long as the person wants to rock.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album can't say enough about it, December 21, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Unraveling (Audio CD)
This is one of those ablums you can listen to for a long time and a long time to come. This band is GREAT!!! If your a fan of punk, rock, or hardcore or all three do yourself a favor and get this album. Its fast and hard but the melodies shine bright, the drumming is fast, guitars deffantly add to the music, and I can't say enough about the vocals. rise Agasinst does what I think many hardcore bands should do the vocals are up to the standards of the music, Its in tune and more than just screaming. I would recommend this album to anyone. If your like me the second I heard it I knew I had to buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars No more whining!, July 26, 2002

The Riblet (Satellite Beach, FL) - See all my reviews

In a time where every new band is a bunch of whiney pop-princesses that are trying to sound as much like Saves the Day or New Found Glory as humanly possible Rise Against is a breath of fresh air. This album let me know that punk-rock is still alive and well, somewhere. If you're band is mistaken for Saves the Day...you are a dime-a-dozen these days and going nowhere

3.0 out of 5 stars Weak relative to their other albums, November 9, 2011

This is Rise Against's first album and to be honest, it shows. In general the music here is unrefined relative to their other albums. The writing and the melodies are weak while the addictive hooks found in their later music haven't showed up yet here. There are a couple songs on the CD I like, but mainly I find myself fast forwarding through most of it. And this is coming from a hardcore Rise Against fan.

If you find yourself in love with this album, you might not like their later stuff as much. On the other hand if you are new to Rise Against and are looking for their best music, my recommendation would be to check out the following records (in order):

Revolutions per minute
The Sufferer and the Witness
Siren Song for the Counter Culture
Appeal to Reason
Endgame

As for this album, I would recommend sampling individual tunes before buying the whole thing. You will probably be better served buying individual tracks here.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not their best, too messy, February 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Unraveling (Audio CD)
Being their first album, it's no surprise that RA's sound is very undeveloped on this album. It's basically just raw punk with no clear melody.
Every album they have done after this one has been a much better example of their personalized sound and pure talent.
