Product Description
"Unraveling the Stories" explores quilts as a time machine--a way to look beyond their art to see the people and messages behind them. Relying primarily upon quiltmakers' own words and works, it celebrates a diversity of cultures, motivations, and artistic choices, from traditional to avant-garde.
This 57-minute PBS documentary shares many of the stories connecting families, communities, and entire cultures for generations, from African American storytelling traditions to ancient Indian cultures, from environmental issues to messages of personal grief and love.
"Unraveling the Stories" encourages viewers of all ages to connect--visually and emotionally--with their own past, present, and future.
"Unraveling the Stories" is a national Bronze Telly award winner; an Emmy nominee; and has been featured on PBS stations nationwide and at the Houston International Quilt Festival, the Nashville Film Festival, the Ohio Independent Film Festival, the Esperanza Other America Film Festival, and the National Womens Studies Association conference. Partial funding was received from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Ohio Humanities Council, and the Ohio Arts Council.
