You've played this game before...,

This review is from: Unreal 2: The Awakening Special Edition (CD-ROM)
Unreal 2: The Awakening is like any other First Person Shooter game. You are the last hope of the world again, and you must take on the enemy (mostly) alone. Only to be rewarded with similar cut scenes of your transport going from - or coming to your space ship. (Although your First Mate, Aida, is somewhat good looking (...))It's an entertaining story at least. And probably worth the (...) asking price for what it is. Just expect to play it for 6 - 10 hours with little replay. What sets this game a part from other shooters is the one sniper mission where you have to protect a mechanic from a sniper vantage point. Or the two mini-base building mission, where you protect others by building a force field and gun turrets. Else, you just hunt for the switch or find the Artifact, and even this is fairly straight forward. And the weapons are very imaginative. (Later on in the game...) To sum it up: AI is great. Graphics are great. Sound is great. The story is good. Characters are good. And the missions are average. Length of the game is short. And the difficulty is adjustable from very easy to insane.

boring compared to original Unreal,

I kept waiting for this game to dazzle me in some way like the original Unreal did, with its magical characters, visuals, and score. That moment never came. It's practically the same game as Halo. I don't know who ripped off who, but the similarities are striking. When I reached a 'boss' part which I couldn't mitigate after many attempts (the difficulty level seemed to double, suddenly) I put this baby on the shelf to collect dust.

Above Average Single Player with an unprecedented XMP A++,
This review is from: Unreal 2: The Awakening Special Edition (CD-ROM)
Unreal 2 has the best graphics of any game to date. However graphics are not everything. Unreal 2's story is average, the weapons are unique each with own crosshair, top of the line.Single Player 7.5/10 (Just not up to par with rest of game, show a lot of potential but only uses some of it.) XMP - A class based game that is not like DM, TDM, CTF or anything else. The object is to get artifacts. There are vehicles, turrets, huge levels (32 people) there is an XMP demo out that is worth trying. XMP is the most fun I have had in a while. ...Check out the preview from Beyond Unreal it is great... plus for the price an amazing game.
